Do You Have ETERNAL LIFE?

Is ETERNAL LIFE for Real?

If you were to speak of “eternal life” in a normal conversation, your friends might think you were crazy - especially in this time of the Coronavirus. And yet Jesus Christ - over 20 times - speaks of ETERNAL LIFE in the Bible. For example,

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” (John 6:51, NKJV)

54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:54, NKJV)

Notice that He speaks of LIVING FOREVER and also that the person will have a RESURRECTED BODY.

Another example of Jesus’ statements about this is...

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die eternally. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25–26)

What is ETERNAL LIFE?

It is clear from the above statements that ETERNAL LIFE includes......

Living forever

Having a new resurrected body - even if I die in this life

But Jesus Christ also points out that ETERNAL LIFE....

Involves a ongoing RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (John 17:3, NKJV)

How Do I Get Eternal Life?

You might think right away..”I really want ETERNAL LIFE. Who wouldn’t want it?” But the question comes… “How do I get it? It must be really impossible to get it.” Yet… Jesus Christ makes this very clear - how to get ETERNAL LIFE. He says..

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:14–16, NKJV)

40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:40, NKJV)

47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. (John 6:47, NKJV)

30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. (John 20:30–31, NKJV)

I get ETERNAL LIFE simply by BELIEVING IN JESUS CHRIST for it.

Jesus and the Bible make it abundantly clear that anyone who wants ETERNAL LIFE can get it by simply BELIEVING that JESUS CHRIST will give it to you. It does not require WORKS of any kind. It is simply a FREE GIFT.

What Are the Options? Eternal Life or What Else?

Jesus seems to speak of these when He discusses ETERNAL LIFE…For example,

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; but he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:16–19)

The two options seem to be ETERNAL LIFE or JUDGMENT. But who will be the JUDGE? This is answered in ...

24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life, and shall not come into judgment, but has already passed from death into life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, 27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good [believed in Jesus], to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment. 30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me. (John 5:24–30)

This JUDGMENT is summarized in Revelation 20 [at almost the very end of the Bible]....

10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it [JESUS CHRIST] , from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life [THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO HAVE ETERNAL LIFE] . And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire [= ETERNAL JUDGMENT]. (Revelation 20:10–15, NKJV)

So the two choices are ETERNAL LIFE or ETERNAL JUDGMENT in the Lake of Fire.

The choice is up to you. Keep in mind this has nothing to do with going forward for an invitation but simply BELIEVING the promise of Jesus Christ. You can get ETERNAL LIFE right now - in your seat. A good friend of mine was saved by believing in Jesus Christ while alone in his coal truck. It’s that simple.

Can I Ever LOSE Eternal Life?

This sounds like a contradiction…right? As one man has said...”If eternal life can be lost, then it has the wrong name!!”. But listen to these words of Jesus Christ, the Giver of ETERNAL LIFE...

35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never [οὐ μὴ DOUBLE NEGATIVE] hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never [οὐ μὴ] thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means [οὐ μὴ]cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:35–40, NKJV)

Jesus Himself guarantees that I can never lose eternal life.

Do You Believe This?

Jesus said to Martha, in John 11,

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die eternally. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” (John 11:25–27)

Martha answered affirmatively. What about you?
