- If Every One can Go to Zechariah CH 9: VS 9-10
- Read !!!!
- The Title in This prophecy is called the coming King
- So this prophecy is Fulfilled here in Luke 19 and is known as the Triumphal Entry
It was written about 520 BC and this was when the Jews Had Just come out of being in captivity for 70 Years
Zechariah is Like don’t worry the king is coming
from the time this was prophesied to the time Luke wrote the triumphal entry
the people must have suffered severely during this time
Zechariah 9:9-10 ““Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey. I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim And the horse from Jerusalem; The battle bow shall be cut off. He shall speak peace to the nations; His dominion shall be ‘from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.’”
Notice the first word in this prophecy is rejoice ! Rejoice that the king is coming Be excited, look forward to it, express the joy in knowing that Jesus was coming
it is important to understand this prophecy before we get into this next section of ch 19 its the literal prophecy that Jesus is about to come rolling in on a colt
Zechariahs prophecies were written between 520BC and 518BC and Luke was written around AD 70
a span of 500- 600 years . 589 to be exact of the dates were 100 percent accurate
Start Reading the Passage
Luke 19: 28 “When He had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.”
- So we see here, just like that last couple Sundays that Jesus was constantly moving. Never Lazy
he was always traveling, Hes that Guy that cant sit still, hes on a mission
His mission being the death on the Cross
Luke 19:29 “And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples,”
Luke 19:30 “saying, “Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here.”
- The road from Jericho to Jerusalem was loaded with thousands of pilgrims once a year. These people would crowd the roads on their way up to Jerusalem
• These pilgrims would face an elevation change of around 3,370 feet (1025 m) over the course of approximately 14.5 miles (23.3 km).
• When Jesus made his final trek into Jerusalem along this route, he stopped in Bethany and then Bethphage, where he secured a colt, before proceeding down the Mount of Olives into Jerusalem for his triumphal entry.
Luke 19:32 “So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them.”
Luke 19:33 “But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, “Why are you loosing the colt?””
Luke 19:34 “And they said, “The Lord has need of him.””
Luke 19:35 “Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him.”
significantly Jesus used a colt and not another animal, the colt signifies humility
he didn't take the donkey like it says in Matthew, yes they literally took the donkey but he rode the colt which is beneath the donkey, its the off spring of the donkey.
Here we see that its a possibility the colt belonged to someone Jesus knew, Jesus sat on a colt
it was normal back in those days to borrow an animal like that if you were an important religious/ political person
Luke 19:36 “And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road.”
Luke 19:37 “Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen,”
Luke 19:38 “saying: “ ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!””
Luke 19:39 “And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.””
Luke 19:40 “But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.””
Luke 19: 41 “Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,”
Luke 19:42 “saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.”
Luke 19:43 “For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,”
Luke 19:44 “and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.””
Luke 19:45 “Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it,”
Luke 19:46 “saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ””
Luke 19:47 “And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him,”
Luke 19:48 “and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.”
