Jesus Matthew 5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, This is an illustration of how a teaching ministry operates. From the NCV here’s what I am talking about Matt 5:1 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a hill and sat down. His followers came to him, 2 and he began to teach them, saying: You sit down to teach and you stand up to preach. Alright let’s see if we can get the true meaning out of this Matthew 5 text. I found out that Jesus began with a positive emphasis on righteous character and the blessings that it brings to the life of the believer. Your Character is your true self. Because In the Beatitudes Jesus describes the pictures of the believer, based on Christian character that flowed from within.Yeah 3x you can put on a good game in church but out in the community or behind closed doors how do you live? The Beatitudes describe the attitudes that ought to be in our lives today. Four attitudes are described here.

Then further research gives this definition. The word Blessed means to hallow the name of the Lord such as Hallow be thy name. Bless means to consecrate by religious rite , by giving Divine care, by speaking well of someone, by wishing someone else good health and strength, Blessed means to Glorify, and Honor God. Blessed means to approve and confer, prosperity or happiness upon someone. Blessed means to Protect and Preserve and endow with Godly Favor, and Blessed means to venerate and hold in the highest reverence. And that’s the definition to the word blessed.

To be poor in spirit means to be humble, to have a correct estimate of oneself (Rom. 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Then 2. there is the crushed spirit in Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted, and he saves those whose spirits have been crushed.

Some things can just crush your spirit man. and it;s not money or influence or clout or socializing etc but some personal things can get in your way. From the KJV it say 18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. As we deal with the Poor in spirt concept we must remember that Christ wants to bless us He want s to give us Makarois God wants to bless us. AND one of the processes of Him doing that is for us to have the concept of Poor in Spirit. But! to be “poor spirited” does not mean not to have backbone at all! No no no But “Poor in spirit” is the opposite of the world’s attitudes of self-praise and self-assertion. It is not a false humility that says, “I am not worth anything, I can’t do anything!” Poor in Spirit is when we are honesty with ourselves: we know ourselves, accept ourselves, and try to be ourselves to the glory of God. Lord I know that I’m not all of that but I’m trying… And the text says when you do that Theirs is the Kingdom of God. Dr. Parker said that the text can’t mean today what it didn’t mean when it was written. Surely when you and I see theirs in the text we see the disciples who met with Jesus and followed Jesus up the mountain side, Surely we also know that the bible is transcendent to all generations eras and ages in time and so we know that If we are poor in spirit ours is the kingdom of God. Let me further prove the case in James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? All three verses start with the word Blessed Further research suggest that the Latin word for blessed is the word beatus and from this comes the word Beatitude. In Jesus’ day this word meant powerful divine joy and perfect happiness. Listen nah Beatus or Beatitude or Blessed in Jesus’s day was a word only used for gods or the dead because it implied an inner satisfaction and sufficiency Listen now that didn’t depend on outward circumstances for happiness. And Jesus reached past humanity into the divine and forged a word for us Blessed Beatus Beatitude. And the Beatitude describes the attitudes that ought to be in our lives today. And so 2. Our Attitudes Towards Our Sins.

2. Isaiah 61:The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; Because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek;He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, To give unto them beauty for ashes,The oil of joy for mourning,The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they might be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

That’s powerful because when you’re mourning you need to know that there is scripture to help you get through your time of need.

3. John 16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. 21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. 22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. 23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Then verse 5 in Matthew 5:5. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. First of all being meek and lowly is not being weak. Meekness is only power under control.Look at Psalms 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. When you’re off the right track and you allow yourself actually force your arrogance to be meek Jesus says the meek shall inherit the earth. You’ll get a lot more out of life than trying to force feed yourself through life because again meekness is power under control. It’s learning how to be gentle.

Then we have verse 6. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Isaiah 55:1 talks about it too He says “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters,And he that hath no money;Come ye, buy, and eat;Yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? And your labour for that which satisfieth not?Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, And let your soul delight itself in fatness.

Then God flips the script in Isaiah 65:13. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD,Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry:Behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty:Behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart,But ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, And shall howl for vexation of spirit.15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen:For the Lord GOD shall slay thee,And call his servants by another name:16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; And he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; Because the former troubles are forgotten, And because they are hid from mine eyes.

All of these scriptures indicate How our Attitudes towards our sins have to be Whether Old Testament scripture or New Testament Scripture Whether the words were uttered by former prophets or by Jesus or by Jesus’ disciples or His Apostles. Scripture back up scripture all day long and all night too.

When you are merciful you’ll receive mercy. You’ll remember Lazarus and dives Lazarus was poor dives was rich and dives wouldn’t even give poor Lazarus the crumb for the rich man’s table.Even though the crumbs was what dives would throw away to the dogs. Boy that’s an unmerciful spirit. Long story short both men died. Lazarus went to heaven and the bible says dives open and lifted his eyes up in hell. Then dives wants to call for mercy and God reminded him that went you were living large you didn’t care about nobody and poor Homeless Lazarus just wanted the crumbs from the rich man’s table.. He just wanted what dives would throw away to the dogs. and the dogs were Lazarus’ only friend But Jesus said 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. You reap what you have sowed.Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death. Dives thought he was right but he was dead wrong. and before we are unmerciful check with the scripture before you do anything.

Then there is verse 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. This is another Attitude Towards the Lord Statement. Because scripture teaches us in Psalms 24:4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; Who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity,Nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD,And righteousness from the God of his salvation. The word Pure in heart is the word Transliteration: katharos Phonetic Pronunciation: kath-ar-os’ It means to be clean and clear. I was watching a movie on Disney channel where there was a machine that told Santa Claus which kids were on the naughty list and which kids were in the nice list. Santa Claus is a mythological figure who has a pagan origin. But the concept is the same as with our God. Our God can tell who is righteous and who is wicked. I want the Lord to write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life Because the bibles says only the Pure in Heart shall see God. Your Heart has got to be right.

Our Attitudes Towards The Lord is verse 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. We’ve got to be Peacemakers in the eyes of the Lord. Listen a lot of the time I ain’t keeping the peace because of people I’m keep peace before the Lord My Attitude is Towards The Lord. Why ? It’s simple He who lives by the sword dies by the sword says the Lord. peace in the Greek vernacular is the word Transliteration: eirēnopoios Phonetic Pronunciation: i-ray-nop-oy-os’ Meaning your pacificatory efforts will be seen by God as a peacemaker and a person of Harmony. Pacificatory means to pacify. Listen you know they dead wrong “ but you use your meekness to keep things calm cool and collected.. And the church said Amen. This is a new word for me because Eirene is the Greek word for peace.. And you always hear me say I got to have peace in my life in my home in my church in my community etc right? But this new word that I’ve learned tonight is eirēnopoios and it means for me to create a space of peace thus ly becoming a peacemaker. I’ve actually become a child of God let’s read verse 9 again 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. And for many churches, practically all Christian churches they have some faction, some sect, some section, some click some clan that creates havoc in God’s church AND NOW THAT YOU’VE HEARD THE WORD OF GOD YOU’RE DULY RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE YOURSELF A PEACEMAKER

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
