Seekers of the King

What does it mean to seek?
What does it mean to seek Jesus?
Psalm 105:4 ESV
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

What does it mean to seek?

1 Chronicles 22:19 NIV
Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. Begin to build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the sacred articles belonging to God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the Lord.”
Colossians 3:1–2 ESV
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Both Old and New Testament have this idea for us, so we know that we have to, but what does it mean?

Seeking God is a conscious choice

God has revealed Himself to us in every way we can imagine. Through His creation, through His word, and even sometimes through others. So it is not that we are seeking the Lord because He is lost, but rather we are seeking to be in His presence daily.
We are seeking to know Him more.
We are seeking to hear from Him more clearly
It is a conscious effort on our part to remove the things of this earth and direct our souls, minds, and hearts on Him

How?

We cry out to Him
Isaiah 55:6 ESV
“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;
Matthew 7:7–8 ESV
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Jesus tells us that we are to ask, to seek, to knock.
You don’t ask a question if you do not think you are going to give an answer, and you do not knock on a door if you do not think that you will not get a response.
We often do not seek because we feel like God is going to give us something bad. in reality He wants to give us so much good.
Matthew 7:9–11 ESV
Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
Sometimes though we don’t ask because we know that God has so much good to give us, but we don’t want to give up the things of this earth.
We cry out to Him
We have to seek humbly
Psalm 10:4 ESV
In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
1 Chronicles 28:9 ESV
“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.
Humility is not thinking of yourself as garbage, but rather it is putting yourself in light of who God is.
God is perfect, you are not.
God is holy, you have a sin nature.
God loves you with everything He has, so He sent His Son to die on a cross for you so that you are no longer an enemy, but a child of God.
What is stopping you from seeking?
