13 When Jesus heard of it, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. 14 When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. 15 When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 [Jesus] said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.” 17 But they said to him, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.” 18 Then he said, “Bring them here to me,” 19 and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over—twelve wicker baskets full. 21 Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children.
The doctrine
After the murder of John, the Baptist, Jesus increase his minister John is the last prophet, is time to show that the shadows of the Old Testament will be clear.
Jesus brings his people to a desert place, like Moises bring the Hebrew in the wilderness.
Then his heart was moved with pity, after the incarnation the Son of God have a human hear, a heart that is able to suffer, to feel our pains as your own pains.
After felling huger, the decouples wants to send them away, but Jesus says no wait give them food by yourselves.
The next part of the Gospel as for one side a sow to the people that he is greater than Moises, because pray and God send the mana, but Jesus himself will feed the multitude.
But also is a preparation for the Miracle of the Eucharist.
He is doing at evening, when the sun is dying, after his death he will feed the crows,
14:19 the disciples gave them: Jesus feeds the crowd through the hands of the apostles. ● The disciples’ intermediary role points forward to their priesthood (cf. 15:36). They distribute the bread provided by Jesus in anticipation of the eucharistic liturgy, where the priests of the New Covenant give the Bread of Life as Holy Communion to the Church (1 Cor 10:16; CCC 1329)
Application
After meditating that this passage is a preparation for the Eucharist that we receive trough the apostles, to the bishops and priest.
We think for a moment how this Gospel can be my food today.
Firth thing that we must remark is that God is no deaf to my players, nor blind to my sufferings, he has a human heart, a Sacred Heard that is full of mercy to our sufferings.
Como to this precious heart, that is full of love and compassion even for your material needs
But not only ask the things that we need for maintain our daily life, more important the thins what we need for our daily spiritual life for our salvation.
Second thing is according with San Agustin, do let the people go without give some help.
Because is we want mercy, we have practice mercy with others. I we want that God hear our prayers, we have to heart the sufferings of our brothers.
S. Aug. de concord. evang.—They have no need to go: give you them to eat. This he says for our instruction, that when the poor ask us alms, we send them not to other persons and other places, if we are able to relieve them ourselves.
Las thing gives thanks always to God for his blessings.
He blessed and brake. From this let Christians learn to give thanks at their meals, begging of God that his gifts may be sanctified for their use.
