Mankind is suffering from a serious lack of Rest
28 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Rest is a Gift of God
2 On the seventh day God had completed his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it he rested from all his work of creation.
let me ask you, why did God rest on the 7th day? Because He was worn out from a week of hard work or as a example for us to follow
11 For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy.
The People of Judah and Jerusalem were living what they though was their best life, they were doing what they wanted, when the wanted with no reference to God or His plan. Jeremiah spent his whole ministry speaking to people who would not listen. look at What He told them in Jer 6:18

16 This is what the LORD says:“Stop at the crossroads and look around.Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.
Rest is an Act of Obedience
New Living Translation Chapter 6
But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’
Psalm 95:10–11 (CSB)
10 For forty years I was disgusted with that generation;
I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray;
they do not know my ways.”
11 So I swore in my anger,
“They will not enter my rest.”
Rest Requires Faith
Exodus 20:8–10 (CSB)
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy: 9 You are to labor six days and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. You must not do any work.
Rest means trusting that God can take care of our needs in 6 days of work

one of the main reasons we cannot rest is because we are trying to carry the burdens of life alone instead of giving them to Jesus.
Rest is a Relationship
jesus said,
“Come unto me...you will find rest for your SOULS”
Yoking up with Jesus is an act of trust and faith.
it is only when we go to Jesus do we completely find rest
