You can share your faith without understanding the Bible?
You can discuss God and scripture with someone without knowing the Bible?
You can be a disciple of Jesus without studying scripture?
Congratulations you’ve survived peters crazy deep introduction.
1 Peter is going to push you. There are concepts that you will have to wrestle with. I’m not necessarily going to always tell you what to believe. A disciple wrestles with scripture.
Because 1 Peter is a book that includes all of scripture, it’s going to be really difficult for you to understand everything without having a grasp of the whole Bible.
Imagine you are a Jew. Have a background in Old Testament law. And now you have accepted Christ as your savior, but it’s just mostly a John 3:16 understanding. You accepted him because forgiveness of your sin sounds good. Heaven sounds good.
That’s where these people are. Peter is going to take what they know about the Old Testament and go see this is how Jesus fulfills all that by providing grace, peace and hope to you.
It’s the ohhhhhh that’s what all that stuff my parents taught me moment where it clicks for them.
refer to exodus 34 where Moses gets a glimpse of God and his name
He sees the law that can’t be reached and he sees the gospel that doesn’t make sense.
Peter is saying that Jesus came to make it all work by his own blood.
But what’s your ah ha moment since you don’t have a Jewish background?
It’s still the same. Your sin is worthy of death but you cannot do enough to earn forgiveness. Jesus died for you. The gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit bring peace. So pursue holiness because Gods going to see you through
Tonight I want to walk through a chart that helps with this.
I have some resources for you
And then we are going to pave the road for the what 1 Peter is going to look like.
