Hebrews 12:2-4 Focus On Jesus :
2 We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Then he received the highest position in heaven, the one next to the throne of God.
The Passion Translation Chapter 12
2 We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection.f His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his,g he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation,h and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God!
1. Whats In A Struggle : afflictions and difficulties which threaten to overpower us.
James 1 Verse 2 presents a command concerning trials:
consider it pure joy, … whenever you face trials of many kinds. This does not suggest that we should seek out trials. Nor are we to pretend that enduring trials is pleasant.
They cause pain and difficulty. Still, we should look at trials as an occasion for joy because of their potential for producing something good in us. This calls us consciously to develop a positive attitude toward trials, quite contrary to our normal response.
Similarly, Hebrews regards trials as the discipline a Father gives to help us share in God’s holiness (Heb. 12:10).
10 Our parents corrected us for the short time of our childhood as it seemed good to them. But God corrects us throughout our lives for our own good, giving us an invitation to share his holiness.
Verse 3 explains how believers can show pure joy as they face trials. We are to realize that God intends the testing of our faith to produce perseverance.
Without these trials, some character would be undeveloped. God also uses trials to purge and remove defects from immature faith.
Perseverance suggests endurance or stamina. It does not refer merely to the ability to hold back the discouraging results of a bad temper or remorseful self-pity.
It also includes staying power that believers can have because they trust their God. Tested faith becomes spiritually tough and rugged. (This is why we need to experience this together.)
Verse 4 presents the spiritual outcome or result of a perseverance which attains its appointed role within the believer. or a couple
A believer or a couple with perseverance is perfect.
This does not mean sinlessness or moral flawlessness. It describes maturity, the state of being fully developed.
Complete pictures someone who possesses all the spiritual traits needed for moral completeness. People who endure trials with faith in God can develop every trait needed for spiritual victory. Moreover, these traits can be ripened to a full maturity. An outlook like this naturally describes trials as an occasion for pure joy.
Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery in Egypt. Potiphar’s wife betrayed him (Gen. 39:1–20), and Pharaoh’s cupbearer forgot him (Gen. 40:23). Still, in God’s plan he became the second most powerful leader in Egypt. After their father Jacob died in Egypt, Joseph’s brothers asked for mercy and forgiveness for their past wrongs to him. Joseph’s inspiring response was, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives” (Gen. 50:19–20).
Enduring affliction had produced in Joseph an ability to see God’s greater hand in the malicious intentions of his brothers. God had used trials to make Joseph mature and complete.
QUESTION 2:
How do you know you are mature enough to even be in a successful relationship? Age does not equal maturity. Adulting does’t either
QUESTION 3
What are behavioral signs you OR your partner are not ready for marriage?
What are signs you ARE ready for marriage?
How the heck do we know what successful and healthy looks like with divorce or dysfunction as an example and how to actively see dysfunctional curses in ourselves and stop them!
