I don’t know if you have heard about this Hurricane Hillary. The National Weather Service has already declared that any deaths from Hurricane Hillary will be ruled suicides.
Ecclesiastes 1
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.
Pray:
Solomon was the son of King David. He inherited the blessings of God from his dad. And here we find him struggling with his mortality. He is saying one day I am going to die and everything I have done will be forgotten. There will come a time when nobody remembers what I looked like and the sound of my voice. There will come a time when all these buildings including this magnificent temple will no longer be here. All my labor in this life is for nothing because my life appears and disappears like a vapor.
We often have an inner monologue just like this. We may say to ourselves: There will come a day when people are stepping over my grave on their way to a friend or loved one’s funeral. And nobody will bother to read the etching on my tombstone. Even generations of my own family will have forgotten that I ever even existed. All the work I did in this life will be no more. It has been said that within 400 to 500 years everyone in this generation will be completely forgotten. That is, if the Lord tarries.
It is important to remember that the Old Testament Christians, and that is what they were, Christians. Held on to a promise. That is all they had. Sure, they had wonderful miracles like the parting of the red sea. Which, by the way they soon forgot. But they looked forward to a Savior. They waited patiently for the promise of the fulfillment of the prophecies in the book of Isaiah. Even though they did not completely understand those prophecies just as today we don’t completely understand the ones given to us.
I often find the inner monologues of Solomon here relatable. With one major exception.
You see we have more than just a promise. Historian after Historian has set out to disprove the resurrection of Christ. Only to fall on their face in adoration at the realization that He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And that His resurrection was a historical fact.
They had but a promise to keep them in the fight. But we have indwelling Holy Spirit to remind us He lives.
He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way. He lives, he lives, salvation to impart. You ask me how I know he lives. He lives within my heart.
Yet, even armed with the Holy Spirit and the word of truth we must still live in a fallen world. And from time to time some of us if not most of us can get discouraged.
We find ourselves looking at a world where children are kidnapped and at one time were taken to Epstein Island to be raped or scarified to Satan. Only to discover that Hollywood and even our government is part of it. And perhaps much like Solomon we begin to wonder if we can beat what seems like overwhelming odds.
We might find ourselves focusing on the disgusting platforms like Netflix and Hells Box Office sexualizing children. And wonder to ourselves. What difference can I make. What good can I do. Is it all in vain.
We might think within ourselves why should I continue to give my hard-earned tithes and offerings to a church that isn’t prospering. Why, maybe I should just give my tithes and offerings to one of those mega-churches. So, what if they don’t teach anything worth hearing. At least they draw big crowds.
In fact, maybe I should just keep my tithes and offerings and use it to invest in the stock market. Or buy some real estate. Why should I continue to support any church when we seem to be losing the battle.
And why should I bother putting on the armor of God. Armor is heavy and I’m tired. And I don’t feel like reading my bible every day. You know what, I should just eat, drink and be merry because everything in this life is just vanity.
Nobody is going to remember me in 100 years anyway. Nothing I do matters.
One of the attributes of having been made in the image of God is the ability to be aware of just how vain this life seems to be. You see the natural man struggles and even the natural man that is still within us struggles to understand the meaning of a life spent working and toiling and producing all for what seems to be a vain ending. You might be the wealthiest person in the world. But death will come for you just as it will for me. And you will be just as cold and dead and lifeless in your big fancy tomb as I will be in my cardboard box.
So, we ask what the point is, just as Solomon does here over and over throughout the course of our lives.
After all:
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
Solomon refers to us as smoke. And James repeats this reference:
James 4:14
James 4:14
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Then Solomon says that we die just like a beast or a dog. In Ecclesiastes 3:19
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
On top of that Solomon then tells us that there is an element of chance in this world. In Ecclesiastes 9:11
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
Life is like smoke. Confusing. Even though we are made in God’s image we do not have perfect knowledge. We see only in part. As Paul told us.
1 Corinthians 13:9-12
1 Corinthians 13:9-12
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
Even with all the enlightenment that Paul was given. He still admitted that his understanding of his purpose here was limited.
But let me share something with you that might just make you feel a little better. And it is something that might be a blessing and a comfort to you:
Luke 22:47
47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
John 2:4
John 2:4
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
John 13:1
John 13:1
13 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
You see the word of God assures us that the devil will have his time. Jesus said this is your hour and this is the hour for the power of darkness.
What Christ was saying to the world was enjoy it while you can, this is your hour and the power of darkness.
This is your hour LGBTQ. Enjoy it now.
This is your hour satanist. Enjoy it while you can.
This is your hour pedophiles. You better make the most of it.
This is your hour spirit of anti-Christ. But your hour MUST end.
This is your hour Edomites. The time for your one world government and your attempt to destroy the church. But the gates of hell will not prevail against us.
This is your hour; this is your moment in time.
This is your hour, Judas, and the hour of darkness. But your time will be up soon enough.
This is your hour, false prophets. Teaching the prosperity gospel on the television and turning people away from Christ. Enjoy your 30 pieces of silver.
This is your hour false Israel and the power of your darkness. Live it up while you can.
Enjoy yourself Hollywood. Have a good time. This is your hour.
Listen to me carefully. There is nothing going on in this world without Gods say so. He is sovereign.
So I say:
Enjoy yourselves demons and imps of hell. This is your hour. Laugh and mock my Savior. Laugh and mock my faith. Throw all your parties. Make all your anti-Christ propaganda in your tv and your movies. Just know. Your hour will end.
Ladies and gentlemen Jesus knew something those people didn’t know. What is it you ask?
Sundays coming.
And on that beautiful, blessed Easter morning. Jesus took the keys of death and hell and the grave and declared victory when he sprinkled his blood on the mercy seat.
Enjoy arresting and crucifying my savior Roman Soldiers. Because Sundays coming.
Enjoy those 30 pieces of silver Judas. Because Sundays coming.
This is your hour and the power of darkness. But your hour will soon end.
Here’s something that might interest some of you discouraged Christians. Sunday’s coming.
John 5:28-29
John 5:28-29
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
I always love seeing that word. ALL. How many in the grave will hear his voice? ALL. Nobody will escape Gods judgement.
Revelation 1:7
Revelation 1:7
7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
I like this word too. EVERY eye shall see Him. Even those who pierced Him. Even those who rejected him. Even those who murdered him. Even those who murdered Christians. Even those who hated him. Even those who hate us. Every eye will see the King of Kings coming in glory.
Enjoy your time politicians, selling out the people for 30 pieces of silver. Sundays coming.
Enjoy yourselves baby killers. Sundays coming.
Enjoy yourselves National organization of witches. This is your hour. But Sundays coming.
Enjoy yourselves drug pushers. And by that, I mean these pharmacies pushing heroin and opioids on the public. Make your money now. Sundays coming.
Enjoy yourselves school boards that are promoting and sexualizing our children. Your hour is going to end. Sundays coming.
Enjoy yourselves liberal humanists Universities teaching your lies of Darwinism. Corrupting the minds of our young people. Sundays coming.
Listen to me. Let’s not hang our heads. Let’s not take off our armor. Let’s not get discouraged. But rather let us march forward knowing that Sundays coming.
You see it doesn’t matter whether there are only 3 people in church this morning or 300. The gates of hell will NOT prevail against the house of God.
And when the battle’s over
We shall wear a crown!
Yes, we shall wear a crown!
Yes, we shall wear a crown!
Take courage brothers and sisters in Christ. The devil is just having his hour. And like a vapor it will be gone when Sunday comes.
Well, the liberals pretty much have it right now. Hollywood pretty much has it right now. The perverts who want to mutilate your child and change his or her sex pretty much has it right now.
But guess what? I’ve read the last chapter of this book. And Jesus wins. And we shall be the sons and daughters of God forever and ever.
You know I love when the Spirit of God gives me a message on the importance of being meek like Christ. And I love it when I get a message to cry aloud and spare not and show my people their sins. And that includes mine. Whatever message God puts on my heart to share, I enjoy sharing. But few things get me more excited than being able to stand here in this pulpit and declare unto you. SUNDAYS COMING.
Revelation 21:2-4
Revelation 21:2-4
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
We know how it ends. Don’t we. Sure, it’s normal to have our moments of doubt. Sure, its ok to wonder to ourselves and even sometimes to get down. But at the end of the day. We would do well to remember the end of the book.
And mine says that God will live among us. And we shall be His people. Just as we are His people now.
Let’s be soul winners for Jesus. Let’s make this church a place of refuge from this sick old world. And let’s do it together with the power of God on our lives.
I know we often fall into the trap of why should I be faithful to church. Because my friend, Sundays coming.
Why should I give my hard earned money to support the work of God? Because my friend, Sundays coming.
Why should I share the love of God with my family, friends and co-workers? One reason. Sundays coming.
And when that day comes. What will you have to show for the blessed gift of salvation you have accepted from the Lord Jesus Christ? Will you wear a crown or a frown?
Acts 1:8 says that we shall receive power and after we receive power we shall be witnesses. If you want the power of God on your life. Then be a witness. Everything we do here in this church is to help us grow so that one day we can all teach someone about the gospel message. It is all done for outreach. It is about sharing the message of Gods love to a fallen world.
That means we should all be praying for God to help us find someone in need to witness too. To find someone who can we can then disciple in the faith through our local church. This is how we fight the fight.
Remember Paul said that he had finished his course. He had kept the faith and that he fought the good fight.
Don’t be discouraged by what is going on in the world around you. Because Sundays coming.
Listen to me. God hasn’t left His throne. We have not been forgotten. And believe me Sundays coming.
There is only one thing we can do in this life that lasts. One thing. Think about this. If you lead someone to Jesus Christ that one thing will echo throughout eternity. Nothing else we do matters. And we need to get busy. Because Sundays coming.
Pray.
Alter call.
