-When we don’t take ownership of something that is our responsibility, it tends to become a mess for us
-We have the world we do today because we have a consumer christianity that isn’t taking ownership of making disciples
TS: This evening we are starting in Matthew chapter 28. Take notes, because notes never forget what God has to say and will remind you when you do. The title for our conversation tonight is:

If not YOU, then WHO???

Pray

Matthew 28:16–20 (NIV)
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Authority is given when we seek Jesus with worship

Romans 12:1–2 (NIV)
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
-Worship isn’t an emotional song, it’s a painful sacrifice
-Sitting in a garage doesn’t make you a car just like going to church and living as if nothing is different doesn’t give you the authority of Jesus
God is good and doesn’t force himself on us. He allows us to choose him
-We are all getting our authrotiy somewhere
TS:

What we teach and preach isn’t our choice

1 Corinthians 3:18–19 (NIV)
18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”;
-In a time when foolishness is seen as wisdom, choose to be a fool.
Blind leading the blind analogy:
Kua and I hopeless romantics in college giving each other relationship advice
Draw on the brokenness of the world here
TS:

Now is not the time to be lazy, there is always work to be done

Galatians 6:9–10 (NIV)
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people
-Jesus didn’t build up one hit wonders
-Eras tour analogy:
Taylor isn’t selling out SOFI for a week straight on the back of one song
