Being a Leader
Being a Leader
Being a leader is a humbling role to take on. Many times we find ourselves in the midst of working with students who don’t always get why we are there. Sometimes they can be loud and rambunctious and other times they can be sweet and kind. Overall, when we have our eyes on Jesus, all things that we go through are worth it. The struggle and internal pain when our middle school and high school students don’t “get it.” But isn’t that the whole story of the Crucifix? Jesus was our suffering savior, not because He was forced to, but because of His love for us, including those who would turn away from Him. There will come a time when a student doesn't come to know Jesus the way that you do, or perhaps they will openly tell you they want nothing to do with Jesus; keep loving them, keep serving them. I want to share with you two passages of encouragement, particularly for when a moment like this might happen.
Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.”
Matthew 20:26 “It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,”
Stepping into a leadership role requires you to become a servant to your middle school and high school friends just like Jesus stepped into a servant role with his high school-aged/college-aged friends. Just as you are stepping into that role with them, we are stepping into a servant role with you. We are here championing alongside you and we walking through leading together. Our hope is that you find yourself excited to join us in this adventure.
