Have you ever noticed that the message of the Kingdom of God does not alway have the same outcome on everyone?
Some people seem to start off growing int he Lord really fast and then all of a sudden they vanish. Why?
Some hear the gospel and seem to believe it but they never grow past a shallow belief. No discipleship and they never produce disciples. Why?
Still others hear the Gospel but it is like it never penetrates past their ears.
You know those people who have heard the real Gospel over and over and yet it is almost like it is impossible for them to really hear it. Why?
WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT REACTIONS TO THE MOST POWERFUL AND FREEING MESSAGE IN THE WORLD?
WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT REACTIONS TO THE MOST POWERFUL AND FREEING MESSAGE IN THE WORLD?
Is it the Gospel message, is it the people themselves?
ANOTHER QUESTION.
Why is it so hard to figure out if a person is ready to recieve the Gospel?
YOU KNOW THOSE PEOPLE / HECK SOME OF YOU WERE THOSE PEOPLE.
HARD LIVING
ACT LIKE THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN THE GOSPEL
YOUR CONVINCED THEY WOULD NEVER RECIEVE IT SO WHY TELL THEM.
AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY HEAR / BELIEVE / AND BECOME SPIRITUAL GIANTS YEARS LATER.

TODAY WE ARE GOING TO LOOK AT A PARABLE JESUS GAVE ABOUT SEED AND SOIL.
But this parable is about so much more than Seed and Soil.

TODAY, I AM GOING TO READ YOU A FEW TEXT, RE-TELL MARK 3 AND THEN WE WILL EXEGETE A LARGE SECTION OF MARK 4.

Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.

which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth;
In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,
It is the Words of the Gospel that have the power to radically change us.
Not a philosophy.
It is the word implanted that saves our souls.
The Word is like a seed, It grows into a new kind of Human.
SO I ASK AGAIN, WHY ARE THE RESULTS SO VARIED?

Sabbath -Jesus enters a synagogue - Withered Hand - Pharisees want to accuse Him.
Jesus heals the man - Pharisees get very angry and accuse Him of sinning.
Jesus withdraws to the sea - a huge multitude from all over Israel follow him. he heals, casts out demons, etc.
Jesus goes up a mountain - Calls for the 12 and appoints them to be His disciples - to be with Him and to be sent out to preach the Word.
Jesus and the 12 go home but a huge crowd gathers to the point they could not eat.
When his own family heard about this they came to try and take him away, fearing he had gone mad.
The Scribes who came from jerusalem to see his work were saying Jesus was possessed.
Then His mother and brothers came and sent for him.
Jesus responds, “Who is my mother and brothers?”
Who ever does the will of God is my brother, sisters, and mother.

Man withered hand - Believes
Pharisees disbelieve and want to accuse him of sinning.
The 12 believe and are appointed as disciples.
His own relatives think he is mad and want to lock him up.
The Scribes think he is demonized.
Mary and the brothers of Jesus come and call for Him. Jesus sees their unbelief and calls the obedient to His word His real family.

WHAT IS GOING ON?
WHAT IS GOING ON?
The have all seen the miracles and heard the Gospel.
Why is there such a difference in reaction to His Word?
Why do some believe and others do not?

IT IS THIS VERY QUESTION THAT LEADS US TO THE PARABLE OF THE SEED AND SOIL.

The 6 Seeds and the 4 Soils.
He began to teach again by the sea. And such a very large crowd gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat down; and the whole crowd was by the sea on the land.
And He was teaching them many things in parables, and was saying to them in His teaching,
“Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow;
as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up.
“Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil.
“And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
“Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop.
“Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.”
And He was saying, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, began asking Him about the parables.
And He was saying to them, “To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables,
so that while seeing, they may see and not perceive, and while hearing, they may hear and not understand, otherwise they might return and be forgiven.”

The Seed is the Word
The Soil is the Human heart.
The only difference in each situation is the heart.

- Hard heart and is unable to let God’s word in. Satan snatches it.

Shallow Soil with rocks underneath.
Eager converts who want to grow big and fast but refuse to grow deep.
They fall quickly when persecution and affliction come.
Today we call this group of people DECONSTRUCTIONIST.

Why Does this Happen?
Want to be accepted by the broader world.
A Desire for their own sins to be accepted.
A Desire for sinful friends and family to be accepted.
Dissapointment with God - Tragady
No root system to stand against persecution or affliction.
Soil Three -
Soil Three -
Grows but never produces grain.
A large number of people in the American church fit this catagory.
Heard - believed - responded in faith - But
Something of this world is more important than Jesus.
Being rich is more important than being a faithful disciple of Jesus.
Place their faith in Politics rather than in the mission of Jesus - The great commission.
Keeping up with the jones.
Little league sports - trying to live their life through their kids.
No grain - no fruit in their lives.
They cannot produce disciples of Jesus because they do not have time to be a faithful disciple themself.
Always worried and never at peace.
Soil Four -
Soil Four -
Fertile soil! A Heart that is ready to recieve the word and the Word grows and reproduces.
Hear - Accept - Live it.
They grow deep roots because they want to know Jesus more.
They chase jesus and not the world.
They give themselves to Jesus and the HS produces Holiness in them.
They then begin to make disciples of Jesus - Producing fruit.

SOIL 4 WILL ALWAYS PRODUCE FRUIT.
SOIL 4 WILL ALWAYS PRODUCE FRUIT.

Good Soil always produces but the production rate will differ.
Never let the production of others cause you to Covet.

Filled with the worries of this world?
If that is you today, I want to invite you to the altars.
Come and let Jesus begin to plow and weed your heart.
Maybe today, Jesus has penetrated your heart and you want Him to be Your Lord.
Come to the Altar.
Last of all - some of you have been too scared of rejection or failure to speak the Gospel to people.
I want you to come to the altar and seek a Spirit of power and fearlessness.
We are to sow, His is to prepare hearts and save souls.
We sow and He does all the other work.
