Matthew 19:16–22

And behold one came and said to him: Good master, what good shall I do that I may have life everlasting?

17 Who said to him: Why askest thou me concerning good? One is good, God. But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

18 He said to him: Which? And Jesus said: Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness.

19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

20 The young man saith to him: All these have I kept from my youth, what is yet wanting to me?

21 Jesus saith to him: If thou wilt be perfect, go sell what thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

22 And when the young man had heard this word, he went away sad: for he had great possessions.

Good Master

Why do you call me Good, there is only good God…

JEROME. For Our Savior does not reject this witness to His goodness, but corrected the error of calling Him Good Master apart from God.

Good master, what good shall I do that I may have life everlasting?

This young man was smart by no wise, he was asking for the things the really matters in the life, because he was rich, he knows that the richness was not the goal of the life nor the happiness.

The Jews believe that happiness consist in many possessions ant the believe that the material wealth was a signal of love.

So the young man make the right question, what should I do to have a eternal life.

Here he treats of the perfection of poverty, and that there are two ways, the common way and the special way, as is abstinence.The first way is the way of salvation, the second the way of perfection.

Keep the commandments, keep the law.

‘You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; 19 honor your father and your mother’; and ‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

All of these I have observed. What do I still lack?

Go sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then follow me.

It is necessary the observance of the comandantes, but is no enough, only following to Christ we have a eternal life, and to follow him implies sacrifices

That young did no observe all commandments, because the firs is that you have to Love God above all, like Job who has a lot wealth, but God to test allow the disgrace but he keeps his love and faith in God.

Is necessary to love God above all our possession, we can lost all, but we cannot lost the love of God

This should be our daily question what should I do to have an eternal life.

His model of life was Christ and with his grace he would bend the will of his father. Before proceeding, he wondered, "What good is this for eternity?"

Never deny a call some sacrifice, he wants that you empty your heart
