Three mysterious men visit Abraham.
Genesis 18:16–19 KJV 1900
16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. 17 And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; 18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
Genesis 19:1 KJV 1900
1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
Two angels leave for Sodom, one would stay.
Who was the third man?
Genesis 18:22 (KJV 1900)
22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord.
Message from God: Sodom and Gomorrah will be destroyed…
Genesis 18:23 KJV 1900
23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
Asking God: are you just or not?
bargain: if there are 10 righteous ppl all would be spared.
10 were not to be found...
Meanwhile back in Sodom
The city is proving it’s perversion.
Lot has met the two angels in town and takes them home
Two reasons:
In a time before hotels, custom demanded such hospitality
Did he recognize them for what they were?
Or recognize the city for what it was and wanted to help the two men?
Genesis 19:5 KJV 1900
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
God destroys the cities of Sodom and Gomarrah.
Judgement falls. Lot, his wife and two daughters escape.
Psalms predicted a time when the world is as evil as Sodom and Gomarrah...
Psalm 14:3 KJV 1900
3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: There is none that doeth good, no, not one.
No matter how dark, God has a plan.
God always provides a way of escape!
God was willing to bargain with Abraham…
2 Peter 3:9 (KJV 1900)
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
As ugly as the world is, he has a plan to save!
What is the missing ingredient?
2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV 1900
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Matthew 10:15 KJV 1900
15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Missing ingredient?
Romans 10:14–15 KJV 1900
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
THE MISSING INGREDIENT IS YOU! GO!!
