We are creations who seek to give praise, to worship. It’s built in to us. Think about it, we love to see something amazing… We also love to share amazing things so we can appreciate them in community…
This desire to worship was built into us by God… But this desire was corrupted by sin, so we give our worship to things that don’t truly deserve it.

We have a tendency of giving our worship to created things, but God alone is worthy to be praised!

I read in a commentary that this Psalm was written in response to the Ark of the Covenant coming home to Jerusalem… This is when David dances in the streets and embarrassed his wife.
pray and read

We should sing praises.

Is anybody else a good mood singer?…
If Kristen is home then she’ll usually look at me and tell me it doesn’t sound good. She’s an encourager.
We are told over and over in the Bible to sing praises to God.
Colossians 3:16 ESV
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
It is important that you sing with a glad heart. Not a professional voice, but a glad heart. Make a joyful noise.

God alone is worthy of all worship.

We have two parts to this.
God alone, 4-8
He is holy, righteous, glorious, all powerful, all knowing, all sufficient. He alone is worthy to be praised!
He has power and authority over all. Think about it like this; governmental leaders are the most powerful people on Earth, but they do what God wants them to do.
Proverbs 21:1 ESV
The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.
In the book of Daniel there is a king who won’t humble himself before the Lord so God makes him go crazy for a while, he thinks he’s an animal…
The Old Testament is really entertaining reading!
He is worthy alone, so we praise him. Verse 12 says we bring Him an offering.
Romans 12:1 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
ALL worship, 2b-3 & 9-10
All the people of the Earth should worship God, so we must invite them!
Jesus gives us this command, it’s known as the Great Commission.
Matthew 28:19 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
We are called to invite those who don’t know God to worship Him.
We must acknowledge in our hearts and respond with our lives to the fact that God alone is worthy of our worship. Then we have to invite others to worship what their hearts are truly longing for!
When we do, we join with the rest of creation.

Even creation is worshiping Him.

vv 11-12
I don’t know if y’all have heard about it from any older people or not, but y’all have luxuries that we didn’t as young people. I’d like to tell you about one of those. We heard new music on the radio or we saw the music video on MTV or maybe even VH1, both used to be about music. And if you heard a good song and wanted to hear it some more, until I was in 10th grade or so, you couldn’t just download it. You couldn’t stream it, streams were only in the forest. You had to go to the store and buy it. Maybe they had a single of it, if they didn’t you had to decide if the one song was good enough to risk buying the whole album. Were they a one hit wonder? You couldn’t know until you listened. If they were bad then you had just wasted your $20 on a terrible CD and you just had to live with it! But maybe the whole CD was good, maybe the artist was good!
When you hear a really good song or watch a really good movie or see a really good painting, you want to see more by that artist. There work has made them look good and you want more. That’s what God’s creation does.
Psalm 19:1 ESV
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
So we join with creation in praising the Lord, inviting others, looking toward the day when He comes.
verse 13
The writer of this Psalm was looking forward the Jesus’ first coming, we are looking forward to his next coming when He will judge, and we will praise Him for his judgement because it will be right and He will be faithful.
For those who have placed their faith in Jesus, the judgement will be based on his life, death, and resurrection. For those who have not placed their faith in Him, the judgement will be based on their sin.
