(A 2023 summer series targeting the heart of God—from mine to His)
WELCOME...
The Cornerstone Family is excited that you have taken time to attend our weekend service!
Welcome to this campus or if by Facebook, thanks for capturing our LIVE Stream today.
Cornerstone exists to “Bring Hope to Find and Follow Jesus.”
Thus, you will see us use a hashtag that says #hopeishere.
We believe that together—we can live stronger lives and change the World we live in through Jesus.
Thank you again for joining us today.
TODAY WE COME TO CELEBRATE GOD AND HIS WORD:
WITH A FOCUS ON CHAPTER 6 OF ROMANS
Head Change:
To know that we are free from sin and its power because we have been united with Christ in his death and resurrection.
Heart Change:
To feel grateful that we are released from the power and penalty of sin.
Life Change:
To live a life of obedience because we have been raised with Christ in the newness of life.
THIS WEEK WE ASK?
How do we walk in the “newness of life” that God has given us?
Paul likes anticipating what his listeners are thinking and then he answers them?
So here are two questions he is asking...
In what two ways do we die to sin?
1) we turn our back to sin 2) we turn our eyes to continually believing.
How do we access the power of the gospel for Christian living?
we have to apply the Victory of Christ to our lives.

INTRO
Have you ever moved to a new town or started a new job where you were able to “start fresh”? What was “starting fresh” like for you?
When we think about the process of becoming a Christian, a fresh start is exactly what we get.
But our fresh start is even more profound than we might imagine.
We’re so united with Christ, Paul says, that his death and resurrection are reckoned as our own.
But how do we walk in the “newness of life” that God has given us?
In this session, we will look to understand how to live in this new life we have in Christ.
Union with Christ
Romans 6:5 and Ephesians 1:3–14.
Union with Christ is the reality that, by God’s grace, we are identified with Jesus’s death and resurrection, even though we haven’t physically experienced either.
We share and benefit from his work and, as we read in Ephesians chapter one, receive “every spiritual blessing in the heavens.”
According to Ephesians, what blessings have we received in Christ?
In Ephesians 1:3–14, Paul records a remarkable list of spiritual blessings we have received in Christ:
we are chosen (v. 4)
we are “predestined . . . to be adopted” by God (v. 5)
we are “lavished” in grace (v. 6)
we are redeemed and forgiven (v. 7)
we are made aware of his will (v. 9)
we have received an inheritance (v. 11)
we are sealed with the Holy Spirit (v. 13).
LAST WORD/ALTER CALL
The new life we’re given when we become united to Christ is deeper and truer than any “fresh start” we’ve ever experienced.
It involves more than relocation or a new job; it involves a death and resurrection.
Because we’ve been united with Christ in his death and resurrection, we now have the power to “walk in newness of life.”
So, with Paul and all Christians everywhere, “reckon yourself dead to sin and alive to God.”
This week, let’s choose to approach our struggle against sin knowing that it cannot rule over us.
AMEN

James 5:7 NLT
7 Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.
2 Corinthians 9:10 NLT
10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.
