Transcript
the lack of depth of the word of God is the lack of power.
The Holy Spirit spoke to the church in Antioch and told them separate Barnabas and Paul for a very special work .
So they traveled from Anitoch, to Seleucia, to Salamis , to Paphos.
They could’ve been evangelized the villages all the way there. But theres nothing mentioned of that but yet Luke is emphasizing this very important conversion of the proconsul. This seems like its the high point of the Cyprus experience .
6 Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus,
This man wore many hats.
He was a sorcerer , false prophet, Jewish, and his name means Son of a Savior.
Anytime theres sin it always builds. Sin is away compounded.
Sin is never isolated .
Sin means missing the mark,
Transgression means you violate the mark.
Iniquity is I don’t care about the mark.
Sorcerer
The word Jewish and sorcerer ( magician, astrologer) do not really belong together, because of scriptural condemnation of those involved with magic and the occult.
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,
17 And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.
24 For no more shall there be any false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel.
This man was an apostate Jew, who had succumbed to the attractions of heathenism, using his power and influence as an attendant of the proconsul.
When you hear the name Son of a Savior instantly it gives off trust worthiness.
But Lucifer the same deal his name means “light bearer” his name comes from the planet Venus because you can see Venus day and night.
Thats why he’s called the son of the morning.
But yet pride and death is in the very character of Lucifer.
But Bar-Jesus had the spirit of the anti-Christ
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
Theres many ways to know if you are of the faith.
If you love the brethren
You test the spirit by the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Any one that says theres no incarnation they are the anti-Christ.
antichrist n. — a person who sets himself in the place of Christ; especially implying the usurping of Christ and his position.
essentially if you say God did not become a man. This is the spirit of the anti- Christ.
7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.
9 Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him
10 and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?
11 And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
Paul used a pun here. calling Bar- Jesus the son of the devil, and called him according to who he really was.
Your not the son of the Savior you are the son of the devil.
Enemy of all righteousness. One of the key attribute's of God is righteousness. Bar- Jesus your completely oppose to God.
