REVELATION 19 The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
As I come forward at end of worship
SLIDE 1 “WELCOME”
Encouraging words from worship
Last time we started in Revelation chapter 19
SLIDE 2 “HALLELUJAH”
The four fold Hallelujah
The great harlot Babylon was judged for corrupting the earth with her immorality and for the blood it shed on the Lord’s bond-servants
The 2nd Hallelujah “Her smoke rises up forever”
Then the 24 elders and the 4 living creatures fell down and worshipped on the throne saying Hallelujah!
Then a voice from the throne, “Give praise to our God all you His bondservants, you who fear Him, the small and the great.”
SLIDE 3 “HALLELUJAH THE LORD OUR GOD REIGNS”
John said he then heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying
Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty reigns.
SLIDE 4 “THE MARRIAGE SUPPER OF THE LAMB”
Today we continue in Chapter 19 and what we have been waiting for “The Marriage Supper of the Lamb”
I don’t think we can really get a true picture in our minds what this will really be like
Just the words Jesus gave about going to prepare a place for us.
SLIDE 5
John 14:1–2 NASB95
1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
SLIDE 6
John 14:3–4 NASB95
3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 “And you know the way where I am going.”
SLIDE 7
John 14:5–6 NASB95
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
This next verse just really rocks it!
SLIDE 8
John 14:7 NASB95
7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”
Lets gets into Revelation 19 again and learn more about the marriage supper
Remember these verse in 19 start right after the 4 Hallelujahs
SLIDE 9
Revelation 19:7–8 NASB95
7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” 8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
So all those praising God with the Hallelujahs are now saying “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him”
Why glory to Him?
Its saying she made herself ready, she has clothed herself in bright fine linen and righteous acts
The last also acknowledging His bride as saints
The Greek word for saint here is haglos…it means “holy one”
Its all the work of Christ for us but look again at verse 7 she has made herself ready.
The faith part is on us that makes us ready
Pastor Mark and I were talking about Colossians chapter one in how maybe we should make that The Road Creed and he was like and maybe we could write that into a worship song!
So the bride of Christ has made herself ready by faith in what Christ has done for us
Colossians details that out has that process of faith takes place
SLIDE 10
Colossians 1:13–14 NASB95
13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
So there are 4 huge things that take place in these 2 verses.......look close because faith activates all 4
.....made herself ready
He rescued us, transferred us into His kingdom, redeemed us (whats that?) apolutrosis - payed the ransom, we are forgiven
SLIDE 11
Colossians 1:15–16 NASB95
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
SLIDE 12
Colossians 1:17–18 NASB95
17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
SLIDE 13
Colossians 1:19–20 NASB95
19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
Now check this out, this really good, this is the bride being ready we were seeing in Revelation
SLIDE 14
Colossians 1:21–22 (NASB95)
21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds,
22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach—
Now here’s the faith part.....”the bride made herself ready” from what we saw in Revelation
SLIDE 15
Colossians 1:23 (NASB95)
23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.
Revelation 19 in verse 8 again
SLIDE 16
Revelation 19:8 NASB95
8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
SLIDE 17
Revelation 19:9 NASB95
9 Then he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ ” And he said to me, “These are true words of God.”
This is also fascinating about being invited
How the amazing plan of God was that we as saints would get invited and much more the faith part being even more important to make ourselves ready
Jesus again here speaking in parables to the people
SLIDE 18
Matthew 22:1–3 NASB95
1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. 3 “And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come.
SLIDE 19
Matthew 22:4–6 NASB95
4 “Again he sent out other slaves saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast.” ’ 5 “But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business, 6 and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them.
SLIDE 20
Matthew 22:7–9 NASB95
7 “But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire. 8 “Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9 ‘Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.’
SLIDE 21
Matthew 22:10 NASB95
10 “Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with dinner guests.
SLIDE 22
Matthew 22:11–12 NASB95
11 “But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, 12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.
SLIDE 23
Matthew 22:13–14 NASB95
13 “Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The proper wedding clothes will always be clothed in Christ
Adam and Eve sewed up fig leaves to cover their nakedness and sin
But Jesus didn’t do any patchwork job when he paid the ransom for us, it was paid in full by His blood, His death and resurrection ....and we cloth ourselves in that....everyday faith is what we use to cloth ourselves in Christ Jesus!
Last verse today here in Revelation 19 lets take a look
After John hears or gets the vision about the marriage supper this is his reaction
SLIDE 24
Revelation 19:10 NASB95
10 Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Remember in Rev chapter 12 the dragon was thrown down to earth and then accuses God’s people day and night
And how do we overcome this?
SLIDE 25
Revelation 12:11 NASB95
11 “And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.
Its always so important to know that we make ourselves ready and get the invitation by faith and believing in Jesus shed blood for us “the ransom paid in full”
But our testimony is so important as well
Look again at that verse in Revelation 19
SLIDE 26
Revelation 19:10 (NASB95)
10 Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Remember I was sharing with you about this
Anyway you can everyday in some way be a testimony of Jesus in that world
That is why Paul said to desire the gift of prophecy more than any spiritual gift in the church
Why? Our testimony of who Jesus is in our lives prophesies over others lives who may not know the Lord
Just as this verse on the screen says “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy
Look what Paul says in Corinthians
SLIDE 27
1 Corinthians 14:1 NASB95
1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
