<Exodus 17:7>
The question asked at the end of this verse is one that people ask directly with those words and indirectly with their actions.

The Israelites were thirsty and God provided.

(15:22-25)

God gives the Israelites a command.

(15:25b-26)
Genesis 22:1 NASB95
Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
The test wasn’t for God to learn something about them.
God’s test’s allow us to learn something about ourselves.
Heat and pressure show the fruit.

The Israelites were hungry and God provided.

(16:2-31)
Deuteronomy 8:3 NASB95
“He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.
The need was meant to drive them to God.

God gives the Israelites another command.

(16:32-36)

The Israelites were thirsty and God provided.

(17:1-7)

God invites you to trust Him for the everyday needs you have.

God provides for the needs of His creation.

Matthew 6:26 NASB95
“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
God provides for the animals
After healing the lame man in Lystra, the people assumed Paul and Barnabas were gods and they began to worship them.
Paul corrected their understanding and gave the glory to God.
Acts 14:17 (NASB95)
...He did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”
Both the believer and unbeliever owe gratitude to God for providing their needs.
God cares for those in need.
Psalm 140:12 (NASB95)
Psalm 140:12 NASB95
I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted And justice for the poor.
I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted and justice for the poor.
God sustains all things and if He didn’t nothing would exist.

God gives special care to His children.

Psalm 111:5 NASB95
He has given food to those who fear Him; He will remember His covenant forever.
God cares for your practical needs.
Psalm 5:12 NASB95
For it is You who blesses the righteous man, O Lord, You surround him with favor as with a shield.
God protects His children.
God provides a way of escape from temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NASB95
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
God tenderly cares for those who grieve.
2 Corinthians 1:3–4 NASB95
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
God’s care for you should unshackle you from worry.
Matthew 6:31–33 NASB95
“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

God invites you to trust Him for the everyday needs you have.

Maybe you know that but you you get up and walk out the door and before the end of the week you’re struggling with worry over the day-to-day circumstances.
Would you like to get stronger in trusting God in the day-to-day concerns?
Resolve that this world is not your home, and fix your eyes on Jesus and His promises.
One of the reasons people struggle with this is a tendency to do just what Israel did.
Israel continually defined their life and their understanding of God by what was happening to them in the moment.
No straw for bricks: The world is coming to an end.
Hemmed in at the Red Sea: Clearly both God and Moses brought them out there as a sick joke.
No food and water when they want it: The long to go back to the great life they had in Egypt.
We face that temptation as well
2. Paul touched on the real source of our problem.
<Philippians 3>
In this section, Paul contrasts the Christian life compared to the life of the unbeliever.
3:7-11- The way of the Christian.
3:17- Follow Paul in his example. (and “stand firm” 4:1)
Don’t follow the pattern of those in 3:18-19.
Many people’s lives can be characterized by v.19.
The most important thing to the v.19 person is what they want.
b) Paul learned contentment.
<Philippians 4:11-13>
Learning contentment is the key to trusting God with your day-to day needs.
i. Refuse to worry by taking thoughts captive.
Matthew 6:25 NASB95
“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
ii. Choose to be happy with where God has you right now.
Luke 12:15 NASB95
Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”
iii. Accept hardship and weakness as a gift from God.
2 Corinthians 12:10 NASB95
Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

God invites you to trust Him for the everyday needs you have.

Will you trust Him?
