You are Salt, you are light

Matthew 5:13–16 NKJV
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Jesus is saying, all of you, who are going to be my followers, you are the salt of the earth.
Not, you may be. Not you should be, but you are the salt of the earth.
You are, the salt, you are the light.
Who is the you are? VS 3-10
Why salt? Because of it’s importance. The human body.
Ancient days Salt pits, Dead Sea.
Trade, tax revenue, Roman Soldier’s, at times would be paid in salt.
Before freezers, refrigerators salt keep food from spoiling. The fishermen there, would salt their fish.
Wounds, babies. Salt was important in the lives of the people.
Salt for our food.
Job 6:6 NKJV
6 Can flavorless food be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?
Matthew 5:13 (NKJV)
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
What we do as Christians, the we live our lives makes an impact on lives in a lost world.
Disciples knew important, valuable salt.
Jesus first first has to be the most important, but we as Christians carry on the teaching of Jesus.
Salt help prevent the spread of decay, rot of food.
We live is a very corrupt, evil world. Elab
Battle we are army of God, stand.
Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV)
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
II. Salt use fertilizer, promote growth new life.
As Christians, promote growth? Spreading of the gospel.
We are to live as the as the salt of the earth. Elab
Live as God tells us in his word.
What if we are not being the salt of the earth, not living as we should, not being an example not being a good witness? Vs. 13 Lost its flavor
“It is then good for nothing”
If salt is not salty, it has lost its function. If it is no longer salty?
In those days salt was not artificially prepared as it is today. Salt pits dead sea, the salt crust was dug up from the surface of the soil, it was never pure, put contained impurities.
Eventually, these impurities would work their way to the bottom of he barrel and would be thrown out. It was good for nothing. If salt isn’t salt sand, walked on.
What happens is christian don’t lose their salvation but, think like a lost person, act like a lost person. Doing the same things Elab.
Lost our saltiness. We lose our impact to change a lost world those around us, Elab How can we make a difference if we don’t act any different? Elab
We also lose the impact to grow younger Christians.
Jesus warning is not that we loss our salvation, but we loss our vision of the kingdom and importance of the message. Elab
