wIntroduction: We discussed how the Christian is God’s unique workmanship to become like Jesus Christ in doing good works (ex.). Tonight, we’re going to talk about how this transformation results in being brought near to God.
Transition: To be brought near (?; [ex. ice-cream, good!]) means you’re close. Initially, one is far (?; [ex. Using child - distance]).
The proofs of being distant from God (Ephesians 2:11-12)
Separate from Christ - forgiveness
Meaning? (ex. Not with someone); Good? - no
Sin separates us from Christ; therefore, sin is not forgiven
Excluded from the commonwealth/nation of Israel - adoption
Citizenship? - belong to a country/people (ex. USA; what are some other countries people belong to?)
Sin keeps us from belonging to God’s people/family
Stranger to the covenants of promise - inheritance
not citizens, therefore not the same good promises
? - This means that sin keeps us from going to heaven to be with God but, instead, facing God’s wrath in hell
No hope- transformation
? - Hopeless
Hopeless to change ourselves to stop sinning!
Without God in the World - Holy Spirit
Sin in our lives means that we don’t have God’s presence living in us
Good? - no!
Transition: With sin bringing distance from God, there’s only one answer to bring one near.
Only Christ brings us near to God. (Ephesians 2:13)
Jesus’ blood erases the distance between God and us because God forgives those who put their faith in Jesus.
Instead of not belonging to God’s people, God adopts us into His family.
Rather than having to go to hell to face God’s wrath, we are provided an inheritance, in heaven with God.
God is changing or transforming us to be like Jesus instead of us having no hope to change our sinful behavior.
We get to experience the wonderful presence of God through the Holy Spirit rather than being without God.
Conclusion: God has provided Christians so many blessings in being saved - I hope that you have them (invite)!
