The Need of the World
The Need of the World
“An unreached or least-reached people is a people group among which there is no indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelize this people group without outside assistance.”
There are currently 7,391 unreached people groups across the world. Those people groups consist of 3,395,044,000 souls. That is 3.4 billion individuals who have no access to the Gospel. So they have not heard that Jesus came and died for their sins.
The country with the largest population of unreached peoples is India with 1,352,887,000 unreached souls. There are 9 countries with 90% or greater of their population categorized as unreached.
Here in the US, we still have 97 unreached people groups consisting of 14,392,000 souls. To put that in perspective, the 3,117,000 people of MS and the 4,763,000 of LA would only be half of the same number.
And this is only the unreached people groups, never mind the billions of souls who have access to the Gospel but just haven’t heard yet!
A Call to the World
A Call to the World
But how could God send them to hell when they had no option to hear the Gospel? I’m glad you asked. We believe that our right standing with God comes by faith, right? Let’s read Romans 10:13–18
Romans 10:13–18 (ESV)
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for
“Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.”
The Bible is clear that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So if everyone has a sinned, then everyone has a need to hear the good news. Well how can they hear, unless someone tells them!
Jesus told his disciples in Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Think about this, the last known words that came out of our savior’s mouth on earth was a command to be his witnesses! What does a witness do? They share a personal experience typically to support a position or to provide evidence of something. So if we are to be witnesses, then what does that mean?
We need to share our personal experience with others! Think about what Jesus did for you and use that!
But Jonathan, I can’t think of anything special about what Jesus did for me… What about the fact that he literally took you from death to life?
Don’t ever downplay what God did in your life!
The second part of that command from Jesus is just as important. He makes reference to the WHERE of our calling.
Start where you are with an end goal of the ends of the earth.
The Mission to the World
The Mission to the World
So where do we begin?
Start with step one of our mission strategy, Seek the Lost. Start here. Start with seeking out lost folks in Pearl River County.
Consider giving financially to the mission of reaching the unreached. Currently, approximately one penny (actually less) of every dollar spent on missions goes to reaching the unreached people groups. You can mark on your giving envelope or your check that you’d like some of all of that offering to go towards reaching the unreached and we can get it to the right partner organization.
You can come see me and I’ll get you signed up with a mission team attempting to reach an unreached people group.
Most of all, please pray for these people. The harvest is white and there are nowhere near enough workers.
If you have a smart phone, download the Operation World app.
If you would rather a paper copy of prayer cards, let me know and I will print some for you.
We must do whatever it takes to reach the world. We must commit to Tell the World!
