8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
I need a younger volunteer to help me with something. Maybe someone who is under the age of 10. I need you to drive to my house, do my laundry, I want to eat lasagna today for lunch so before the service ends I want lasagna and when you’re done with that you need to put gas in my truck and be here by the time service is done. What you think?
It might be hard for them to do that? they may not want to do it, but they also may not know how to do all that. have you ever driven before? have you ever put gas in a car before? have you ever made lasagna before?
How about instead of doing all that, I am going to read a couple of verses from the Bible, and
I need your help to keep my Bible open.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided,
22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.
23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea.
24 During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion.
25 He jammed the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt.”
Just so that we can have some context in the story, Moses had just set Israel free from slavery. They had been slaves of Egypt for a long time. Moses set them free but the Pharoah changed his mind and he took his army to go get the Israelites back into slavery. While Israel was running away they ran into a sea.
10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord.
11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
12 Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.
14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Sometimes we don’t do what God has asked because we are afraid
We must remember God fights for us.
15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.
16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.
17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen.
18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.”
Sometimes we don’t do what we’re supposed to do because we forget God’s promises. God promised they would be free, and they forgot.
Remember the verse we read in the beginning?
8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
In the same way, God promises to give you every tool you need to do good work.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided,
22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.
Our faith in Jesus is reflected by the things we do.
Let me ask you a question, since you are going back to school tomorrow:
What is God asking you to do?
For the adults, what is he asking you to do at work? or at home? God may be asking you to love your house parent, your roommate, and the people you live with. Did you know God gives you the tools to do it?
God may be asking you to pray for your new school year, maybe he’s asking you to set up a time for you to read your Bible in the morning or at night. did you know God will give you the tool to do it?
Maybe, you’ve been listening to me and your house parents talk about giving your life to Jesus. Maybe you don’t know what it means and you’re interested in know what that is. Come talk to me or one of your house parents.
