Teach us to pray:

Luke 11:1–2 NASB 2020
It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, when He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.” And He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
The fact that they come to him to ask for help to pray:
He was very prayerful
They are asking for more than prayer. They are asking for a prayer that identifies them.
They were asking to be taught a habit
Matthew 6:7–8 NA28
Things to know before we pray:
God does not need convincing from us for him to be good to us
Matthew 6:9–13 (NA28)
In this way.... pray
Jesus does not just command a manner of prayer here but the prayer itself.
In fact in Luke he is quite explicit and says
Luke 11:2 (NA28)
literally: whenever you pray say....
This is a very different way of addressing God that the Jews did not do previously
Matthew 6:11 (VUL): panem nostrum supersubstantialem da nobis hodie
