Welcome
I want to keep this short since we have a fairly full day as a church and we are eager to get to baptisms.
I have two things I want to share with you.
We moved from LG in December to this building.
In March we relocated our offices here.
It has been a significant blessing to be in this space with a reduced load on our volunteers for set-up and tear down.
In May Southside’s Pastor informed me he would be retiring.
This lead to a more serious discussion on what our being in the space meant.
At the end of July he retired and Southside began to pray about what was next for their congregation.
This week Southside voted for their existing member to merge under Coram Deo and gift the building and all assets to Coram Deo.
So Coram Deo… this is now our church building.
We have some legal issues and plans to work through.
I know you have questions I hope to answer a few but before I address the building I want to share my second piece of news.
Circumstances have accelerated our time line.
In the fall of 2022 before we knew about this building I began to feel the Lord pushing me on the name of our church.
While I deeply love the name Coram Deo it has been a challenge in our context.
It wasn’t solely that but more of a, “I have something else for you.”
From there God put it before me multiple times.
From going to a church planting conference and being encouraged to not name your church a latin name.
To talking to Southside and learning of the legacy of the church and how they planted other churches in our town.
I began to wrestle with what is a good name for our context and a name that both honors the legacy of Southside while propelling us forward.
I heard stories about when Southside began they were a young church plant meeting in a store front using curtains to divide their classrooms.
They were called Bay Street Mission then.
Fast forward I am leaving for my solo retreat when a name finally comes to my mind.
It was dead simple but communicated the concept of Coram Deo that we live before his face not just Sundays for Jesus but the rest of the week for me. Rather the whole of our lives lived on mission.
So with that we will be becoming Mission Church.
