The Betrayal of the Son of Man

The Son of Man - Jesus favorite title for himself

Daniel 7:13-14 “13 I continued watching in the night visions, and suddenly one like a son of man was coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was escorted before him. 14 He was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, so that those of every people, nation, and language should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.”

Judas- Judas Iscariot - One of The Twelve

John 6:66, 70–71 “70 Jesus replied to them, “Didn’t I choose you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil.” 71 He was referring to Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son, one of the Twelve, because he was going to betray him.”

The one in charge of the money bag.

Matt 27:4 “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said. “What’s that to us?” they said. “See to it yourself!”
Matthew 27:4 CSB
4 “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said. “What’s that to us?” they said. “See to it yourself!”

Betrayed with a Kiss -

Mt 26:50 “50 “Friend,” Jesus asked him, “why have you come?” Then they came up, took hold of Jesus, and arrested him.”
John 18:10–11 “10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.) 11 At that, Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword away! Am I not to drink the cup the Father has given me?””
Proverbs 27:6 “6 The wounds of a friend are trustworthy, but the kisses of an enemy are excessive.”

Can he be faulted for his betrayal?

They appear to uphold God’s will
Satan’s evil influence,
Judas’ human responsibility
Unless we keep a strict watch, we shall be betrayed into the hands of our spiritual enemies.
John Owen
628 A man may betray Jesus Christ by speaking too many words, and he may betray him through keeping his mouth shut.
Oswald Chambers
To attempt to preach Christ without His cross, is to betray Him with a kiss.
Charles Spurgeon

Jesus Word was a Sword that Struck them all down

John 18:5-9
5 “Jesus of Nazareth,” they answered.“I am he,” Jesus told them.Judas, who betrayed him, was also standing with them. 6 When Jesus told them, “I am he,” they stepped back and fell to the ground.7 Then he asked them again, “Who is it that you’re seeking?”“Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.8 “I told you I am he,” Jesus replied. “So if you’re looking for me, let these men go.” 9 This was to fulfill the words he had said: “I have not lost one of those you have given me.”

Swords

In the Garden-
Gen:3:24 He drove the man out and stationed the cherubim and the flaming, whirling sword east of the garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life.
Ephesians 6:7 “7 Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to people,”
Heb 4:12 “12 For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

It was just Jesus- This is showing us When All is Said And All You Need is Jesus.

The Garden - Adam and Eve Were Naked and felt shame
God Clothed Them
We are Naked and Afraid
This brings us back to that point and our understadning that all we have is given to us by Gods Grace
He took their shame and guilt away. He forgave them and allowed them to live.
His Grace did that!
The Son of Man - Jesus the Messiah is now being led like a sheep to the slouteghter - To provide for you and I a garment of His rightousness to present us before God that Father without Guilt or Shame for Our Sin.
That is Grace in Action
God Riches At Christs Expense
Bonhoeffer
The Cost of Discipleship Bonhoeffer writes, “Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, communion without confession, absolution without personal confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.”1
James Montgomery Boice
You can saty as you are with your forgiveness - it take now realy thought to the pirce paid for your sin.
Costly Grace confronts us as a gracious call to follow Jesus, it comes as a word of forgiveness to the broken spirit and the contrite heart. It is costly because it compels a man to submit to the yoke of Christ and follow him; it is grace because Jesus says:My yoke is easy and my burden light.
While God common grace is experienced by all his saving grace is only experienced by those who put their faith in Jesus.
