Life Choices – Life’s Choices
Luke 6: 46-49
Build on the Rock
“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things
which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and
does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man
building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock.
And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that
house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But
he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the
earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat
vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was
great.”

This Sunday we are back for Round III of a dose of encouragement on
the importance of facing our choices and in many cases to reexamine the
choices we have made in our lifetime as well anticipating the choices we
will make.
We’re coupling today’s message with our celebration of Personal
History Day – a day that we put on display the artifacts and interests of
our lives that tells a deeper more colorful story of who each one of us is
– especially outside of church.
In another way, the artifacts we display are also a representation of the
choices we’ve made in life as well as the choices we’re currently living
out.
So, in brief, I want to share two perspectives on making choices:
• Why we make poor choices?
• Why we make good choices/decisions?
And I’ll wrap up on How do we live with and through making BAD
choices/decisions?
First . . . Why we make poor choices?
• The flesh . . .
• Desperate -- Sarah, Saul
• Selfish – Samson, Prodigal Son
• Deception – Adam and Eve
• Disobedience – House on Sand.
Luke 6:46
“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things
which I say?

But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a
house on the earth without a foundation, against which the
stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin
of that house was great.”
• Ignorance/Uninformed – Peter’s Denials
Now, shifting gears . . . Why we make good choices/decisions?
Why we make good choices/decisions? In reality, the question should
be “How we make Good Choices?”
• Adhere to God’s Principles – that is where we exercise our sense
of Right and Wrong; Reap what you Sow. A saved person’s Third
Ear ~ the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 5:12-14 Spiritual Immaturity vs. Maturity
12
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need
someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of
God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For
everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of
righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to
those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use
have their senses.
• Humbly Listened and Obeyed – House on the rock
• Slow Down (Almost) … Be anxious for nothing
• Leave Room for God . . . Hannah; Romans 12:3
• Trust God
• Obey God
How do we live with and through making BAD choices/decisions?
• Trust God – Ps. 52
• Obey God -- 1 Samuel 15:22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as
great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying
the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.
• Repent – Admit! Change course
