Discouragement will come

review chapter 5
Scripture is very clear that the Christian life is not free from difficulty.
It really doesn’t take long trying to live faithfully as a Christian, especially as a Christian teenager, to find out that it isn’t easy…
Don’t run from God in these times, run to Him. That’s what Moses does in 5:22.
John 16:33 ESV
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Even though Satan wants to discourage us and make us give up, even though we will have trouble in this world, Jesus says we can have peace in this world through Him. The world can’t defeat us if we belong to Jesus because we have defeated the world with Jesus, He shares his victory with us!
This is how Paul can write from a jail cell that he can endure any situation through Jesus!
So what do we do? Let’s look at how God works with Moses in chapter 6.
read 6:1-13

God is at work

verses 1-5
Remember that God is doing something, He is keeping the promises He’s made to his people.
Isaiah 46:11b (ESV)
I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it.
He will accomplish his plans and nothing can stop Him! He will fulfill his promises to his people! So what has He promised his people?

God will save his people

verses 6-8
Let me teach you a life skill real quick: it’s better to under promise and over deliver than the other way around. Tell me you’ll do less and then do more.
If I ask you if you’ll be at church and you tell me yes and then you don’t show up I’m disappointed. If you tell me you might be here then I know you won’t be and you don’t want to tell me, but if you show up then I’m really excited!
Don’t tell me you shoot like Steph and then miss all your free throws, right?
God will deliver on his word! He never over promises.
John 10:29 ESV
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
Rest and rejoice in this! He will save his people! This was his message to the Israelites and it’s his message to his people today. All that He tells them He will do for them with the Egyptians He has done for us with sin through Jesus!
Gospel here.
He is the Lord! He will do what He says!

We must trust and obey God

verses 9-13
The people don’t listen to Moses, but God tells Moses to trust Him and obey his instructions.
Moses didn’t know how it was going to work out with the way things were going, but it did…
This is what we need to do when this world brings us trouble. When Satan gets us discouraged. Remember God is at work. He will save his people. Nothing can stop Him. We can be sure of this promise because of the one who made it! We just trust and obey!
