Jesus again points them toward the cross
but he doesn’t leave them there, he gives them the cryptic “you will see me again”

We must have a larger focus

Verse 20-22
After the cross, the disciples would lament
The world will rejoice
Jesus is drawing us back to the fact that the world hates him
There is a spiritual battle at hand
He compares the cross to labor pains and the resurrection to a child’s birth
The sorrow of losing Jesus will soon be overshadowed by the joy of the resurrection

Jesus gives us access to the Father

v23-24
Hebrews 4:14-16 “14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
