Extrinsic:
not apart of the essential nature of someone or something.
coming or operating from outside.
1.not essential or inherent; not a basic part or quality; extraneous: facts that are extrinsic to the matter under discussion.
2. being outside a thing; outward or external; operating or coming from without: extrinsic influences.
3. Anatomy . (of certain muscles, nerves, etc.) originating outside the anatomical limits of a part.
Examples:
You will receive a million dollars if you _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ .
You will be accepted, belong, approved, valued if you have a million dollars.
If you are:
Successful, Rich, Accomplished, Significant, Popular, good looking, tall
A leader, Manager, or Owner
A singer, speaker,
Intrinsic:
Belonging naturally
(Of a muscle) contained wholly within the organ of which it acts.
1. belonging to something as one of the basic and essential features that make it what it is
2. by or in itself, rather than because of its associations or consequences
Intrinsic motivation comes from inside your heart flowing from were your identity and purpose is planted.
Example:
The women who was married to a man that gave her list of things to expect.
Extrinsic Vs. Intrinsic Motivation
Different types of motivation are frequently described as being either extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic motivations are those that arise from outside of the individual and often involve rewards such as trophies, money, social recognition or praise. Intrinsic motivations are those that arise from within the individual, such as doing a complicated cross-word puzzle purely for the personal gratification of solving a problem.
Intrinsic motivation is the motivation that comes from inside the person.
Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that is driven by an interest or enjoyment in the task itself, and exists within the individual rather than relying on any external pressure.
Definition: the undertaking of an activity, as a hobby, without external incentive; also, personal satisfaction derived through self-initiated achievement.
"There was a culture of external motivation called old covenant." Danny Silk
"The kingdom of heaven is not an external kingdom." Danny Silk
‘The Big Switch’
We are in a time of a bait and switch. Humanity is being baited by internal needs, motivating human hearts to move toward external fulfilments. What our Father wants for us is to fill those same needs from within our hearts.
"I have baited humanity to come and get your needs met. I have sent out enticing smells, sounds, and pictures to wake up the desires that reveal hidden identity and purpose in your hearts. I gave you hints and ideas to fill those desires, but I have a much better hidden treasure in store for you. Just as the desires were hidden in your heart, so too is the solution to fulfill those desires. The great solution is found within you and in the one who lives in your heart. The Helper is flipping the switch inside your heart to reveal the solution that motivated you was never going to satisfy your destiny with Me. Let that external motivation die so I can show you an internal motivation that does not run dry. I am flipping the switch in your hearts, and when I do, you will be tempted to feel let down and unmotivated for anything. Pay attention when you feel like the winds of motivation are no longer filling the sails of desire in your heart. The source of the wind has changed, and you will not find them outside like before. You must move the sails to an inward place and put your trust in Me. I am blowing on the coals in your heart, and I am stirring the springs of life from within you. You will not be able to find motivation from that same source again, so let it die and let your desires be tethered to who I am telling you I am and who I am telling you, you are.
Look into My eyes and listen to what I am saying, and the sails of desire in your heart will be filled with motivation. This desire and motivation will be enduring and everlasting.
When the winds begin to stir in your hearts, they will uncover the feelings of the past and expose what was beneath the surface. Do not be disheartened when you see what is under the surface. Be encouraged because I am uncovering all the way down to your intention, desire, and heart. In that place of clarity, the wind will catch the sails of your intention, desire, and heart, and it will impact your imagination, and we will create together.
Do not let yourself be crushed or discouraged. Instead, be encouraged that desire and passion for your true identity and purpose in Me has been awakened. Look inside your heart and find Me. Make room for Me. Be Loved by Me, and you will see Me fill the sails of your heart with a wind that will not fade away."
Stages of the bait and switch:
Unaware, Aware, Fulfilling...
The Call and external invite
Inflation of external
Internal inflation of that eternal call.
Fulfillment from inside out as an external expression of your identity in Christ.
That expression is now an invite to other externally.
Peter gets picked by Jesus to follow Him.
The winds filled the desire sails of Peter’s heart.
His identity and purpose were awakened. He can finally be somebody valuable.
Jesus asking Peter is an external wind blowing on the sails of Peter’s heart.
It woke up the desire to be somebody and it looks like it will happen.
Now all Peter needs to do is prove that Jesus picked a somebody.
Bait and switch.
Can you imagine Jesus saying come follow me so you can die upside down on a cross.
You will become what your deepest desire is inside and that is one of my greatest disciples.
After Peter proved he was not able to give Jesus what He wanted, his wind was taken out of the sails.
He thought his purpose would be fulfilled by being the best disciple and
ON THIS ROCK, I will build My Church.”
Other examples of bait:
Follow Jesus
Be a leader
Be a dad
Get married
These all woke up the desire of your identity and purpose inside your heart.
How you thought that would look may have changed now.
Proverbs 4:20–27 (NASB95)
20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them And health to all their body. 23 Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. 24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth And put devious speech far from you. 25 Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. 26 Watch the path of your feet And all your ways will be established. 27 Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil.
