MY ROLE AS A PASTOR
Teaching God’s word
Helping you apply God’s word
grow in YOUR relationship with Jesus
grow in YOUR pursuit of God
REALIZE the role of the Holy Spirit in YOUR life
God’s Spirit transforms His people to share His moral character and empowers them to fulfill His purposes.
John 14:16–17 (CSB)
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.
17 He is the Spirit of truth…
HS empowers us to see truth. To see error in our lives. To see what is Wise. And when we start to realize and focus on the HS role in our lives we start to make wiser decisions. It is the function of God’s spirit living inside of us to convict us and point us towards what is wise. To point us towards God’s will for us. To show us his purposes for us.
Jeremiah 29:11 CSB
11 For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
This is what the HS guides us towards. Those PLANS.

PROVERBS IS ALL ABOUT WISDOM. BUT IT ALSO CONTRAST THAT WITH WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE THE OPPOSITE: A FOOL
Have you ever done something foolish? Do you have things you look back on and realize they were foolish decisions?
You didn’t prioritize your education?
Or you cut those corners at your job
You didn’t give that sport in high school your all?
WE HAVE THE CHOICE BETWEEN THE PATH OF FOOLISHNESS OR THE PATH OF WISDOM. BUT WE TEND TO NATURALLY PULL TOWARDS THE PATH OF FOOLISHNESS.
KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE CONNECTED. Knowledge is great. You should gain knowledge. But it is not the answer to life’s problems. We are the most educated people ever in this time of the world but things still go wrong and fall apart. BECAUSE KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM ARE DIFFERENT.
KNOWLEDGE IS SOMETHING YOU GAIN. WISDOM IS SOMETHING YOU RECEIVE.
Knowledge is in the head. Wisdom is in the heart
Knowledge teaches you. Wisdom transforms you.
Wisdom is from God
And we all need wisdom.
ARE YOU PRAYING FOR WISDOM? ARE YOU PRAYING THAT THE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE WOULD HAVE WISDOM?
A FOOL CAN BE DEFINED AS SOMEONE WHO IS OPEN. OPEN TO ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING AND THEY BELIEVE NOTHING.
And while you may say you believe something and you don’t believe just anything. We all have moments where we act as if we do.
THIS IS THE ISSUE ISN’T IT? THAT WE SEE TIMES WHERE WE MAKE DECISIONS THAT DON’T LINE UP WITH WHAT WE ACTUALLY BELIEVE.
WE SAID BEFORE WISDOM COMES FROM GOD. This is something only God can give you and he desire you to have it. Remember this verse from last week?
James 1:5 CSB
5 Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it will be given to him.
When you decide to actually start praying this and seeking this you will see God giving you wisdom for everyday life.
How do I handle my spouse.
How do I handle my kids
My job
This big decision
How do i navigate my struggles.
PROVERBS 30 DAY CHALLENGE
Written by Solomon considered the wisest man to ever live and the wealthiest man to ever live.
He was king during the golden era of Israel. God appeared to him, and in the OT Jesus appeared to him (a pre incarnate appearance) and asked Solomon “WHAT DO YOU WANT”
If you got asked that question what would you say?
HIS ANSWER WAS THAT HE WANTED WISDOM. He asked for Wisdom above all else. He recieved Wisdom and then received all those things that you and I would probably ask for instead of wisdom.
A FATHER WRITING THIS TO HIS KIDS TO PASS ON HIS WISDOM
AND OUR FATHER MADE SURE THAT YOU AND I RECEIVED THIS WISDOM AS WELL.
This isn’t just some cute things and phrases. This is a message from your father directly to you wanting you to gain wisdom.
WE TEND TO HAVE REASONS FOR OUR FOOLISHNESS DON’T WE?
It’s what my family always did
or it’s because of this in my past
it’s what I’ve always seen modeled.
And while those are all factors and contributors to the mistakes we make, God says that we can gain wisdom. And Wisdom FRONT LOADED is better. Gaining wisdom up front before we make bad decisions so that we don’t make them.
HERE’S THE VERSE WE FOCUSED ON LAST WEEK:
Proverbs 1:7 CSB
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Why do fools despise this? Because wisdom will lead you to make decisions you don’t want to make. Hard decisions. one’s that are not easy. That are not what you want in the moment.
Proverbs 4:5–7 CSB
5 Get wisdom, get understanding; don’t forget or turn away from the words from my mouth. 6 Don’t abandon wisdom, and she will watch over you; love her, and she will guard you. 7 Wisdom is supreme—so get wisdom. And whatever else you get, get understanding.
WISDOM IS SEEING LIFE THROUGH GOD’S PERSPECTIVE.
Jesus modeled a wise life. He was the ultimate example of a life full of wisdom.
1 Corinthians 1:30 (CSB)
30 It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption
If we made 100% wise decisions all the time we wouldn’t need Jesus. But the fact is you have made un-wise decisions before and you will probably make some again. Hopefully not as frequent.
WE CAN LOOK TO JESUS. WE CAN LOOK TO WHAT HE TAUGHT. HOW HE TOLD US TO LIVE AND KNOW THAT THAT IS THE WISE THING TO DO.
Matthew 7:24–27 (CSB)
24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
NOTICE HOW WISDOM IS HEARING THE WORDS… AND ACTING ON THEM. WISDOM NOT APPLIED IS FOOLISHNESS.
25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.
NOTICE HOW WISDOM IS FOR THE FUTURE. Wisdom is front loaded. Wisdom prepares and sets a foundation for WHEN problems arise. WHEN rains come. WHEN floods rise. WHEN winds blows.
26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
27 The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”
WE GET TO DECIDE WHICH LIFE WE LIVE.
NOTICE HOW THE OPTIONS ARE NOT = STORM VS NO STORM.
THE OPTION IS WHAT WILL BE LEFT STANDING AFTER THE STORM
