2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Today as we continue on sermon series on the Power of focus…
we review and remember from last week that week should in order to focus on sometime we must not look back.
Mr. Vandiver do you remember what happen to Lot’s wife when she looked back.
Turned in a Pillar of Salt.
Does any remember what happen to me when I me when I looked back when I was running a race.
Looking back - keep us from fulfilling our purpose, destiny , and God -give plans.
We can learn from past failure and success but we should not dwell on the past.
We should focus making the best on out of current situation.
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Give you a hope and future.
The Lord was speaking through Jermiah these WORD during the time the children of God were in a capitivity and in bondage.
What we are focused on in out everyday life is what going to help us to fulfill God will on this earth
We need to look unto Jesus… and seek to honor by setting out affections on Christ.
On this 60th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King jr “ I have a Dream speech”
I have a dream that Abundant Love Church will be full of people that look to Jesus to honor and love Him with all heart, soul, mind, and strength.
I have dream that the Abundant Love Church family will love one another and be lights and salt to to lost and dying world.
I have a dream that Abundant Love Church will be a church full of people overcome the works of the and be filled with fruit of the Spirit.
I have a dream the ALC church family will prosper, be in health even as their souls prosper.
This dream can only be accomplished if we stay focus on God’s, Word, stay filled with God’s spirit, and present out bodies as living sacrifices.
Focus on setting our affection on things above and not on things on this earth
Setting you affections on- phroneo- think, set one mind on, think favorably, pay attention to, entertain…
In other other Word, in our daily life we must practice honoring God and puting Him first and making Him the highest priorty.
Mortify the old nature— Don’t allow you old habit to live - stop feeding old habit that are killing you… For example smoking cigarrettes are killing you; there is no benefit other that give you a temporary pleasure also it expensive a pack of cigerrette cost about $8.00 if some smoke a pack a day that is approx 60 a week habit if their is 4 weeks in the month that is 240 habit.
the bible says in Matt 6:21
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
So if give 240 month to cigerette and give 20 a month to church where is there tresure.
I hate the habit because that habit took the life of my grandmother and my Aunt early. Too early and I must address it . As a believer the habit of smoking, drugs abuse, alcoholism, fornication, and adultery should not be among because it is killing us. It hurting us unnecessarily and we must repent.
I seen people on their death bed asking for cigerretee inside of asking for the WORD, I pray we long for the WORD of god more the we long for the thing of the WORLD>>
Our focus, affection, on the things of God… not on thing of the world.
I not here to be liked, popular, of to have my ego stroked . I am here to help your soul be saved and your mind to renewed. Let take off the old man...
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. 8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
We must learn to conquer the sin, and then that weight us down before we can when the wold. Proverbs 16:32
32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; And he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Lets set our affection of Lord, lets look to Him…By puting th new man
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: 11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. 12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Does that are bound by a habit, repent and the will set YOU FREE by his Spirit>>>
