REVELATION 19 The Coming of Christ
As I come forward at end of worship
SLIDE 1 “WELCOME”
Words of encouragement from worship
Last week week we saw in Revelation 19 about the marriage supper of the Lamb
SLIDE 2 “MARRIAGE SUPPER OF THE LAMB”
A lot in chapter 19 as we saw in heaven the 4 hallelujahs sounded out because the great harlot Babylon has been judged and destroyed by God
And then the rejoicing in heaven for the Marriage Supper of
the Lamb has come, and the bride has made herself ready!
Blessed are those who are invited
SLIDE 3 THE BRIDE MAKES HERSELF READY
The bride of Christ has made herself ready
It was given to her to cloth herself
SLIDE 4 THE COMING OF CHRIST
Now in Chapter 19 we will see the coming of Christ and what Jesus will do at this return
SLIDE 5
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.
We will see in the next verses a description of our Lord Jesus
Heaven is opened and Christ is sitting on a white horse
Significance of a horse has always been what in God’s word?
When Jesus came into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday he came on what? Donkey
We the prophecy in Zec 9 of Jesus’ first coming and then this fulfilment in Matt 21 we also can see the comparison from Palm Sunday to the coming of Christ here
SLIDE 6
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
He is just and endowed with salvation,
Humble, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Notice the description of Christ here in this prophecy fulfilled in the gospels
He is just and endowed with salvation
Humble and on a donkey - a beast of burden
But now in Rev how do we see our Lord?
SLIDE 7
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.
On a white horse this time
He judges and wages war
I love how in the book of Job God comes out of the whirlwind and ask him about the horse
Brief explaining about Job story first
Now this is how God comes to him in the whirlwind and questions Job
SLIDE 8
1 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
2 “Who is this that darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
3 “Now gird up your loins like a man,
And I will ask you, and you instruct Me!
SLIDE 9
4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding,
5 Who set its measurements? Since you know.
Or who stretched the line on it?
6 “On what were its bases sunk?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
7 When the morning stars sang together
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Now notice the difference form donkey Palm Sunday to horse Revelation
SLIDE 10
19 “Do you give the horse his might?
Do you clothe his neck with a mane?
20 “Do you make him leap like the locust?
His majestic snorting is terrible.
21 “He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength;
He goes out to meet the weapons.
SLIDE 11
22 “He laughs at fear and is not dismayed;
And he does not turn back from the sword.
23 “The quiver rattles against him,
The flashing spear and javelin.
SLIDE 12
24 “With shaking and rage he races over the ground,
And he does not stand still at the voice of the trumpet.
25 “As often as the trumpet sounds he says, ‘Aha!’
And he scents the battle from afar,
And the thunder of the captains and the war cry.
So we see in the end of verses 11 of Rev our Lord being on a horse this time and look what He is coming to do.
SLIDE 13
Revelation 19:11 (NASB95)
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.
No matter what has happened all history since creation.........God has been faithful and true no matter what will happen today........ God is faithful and true, no matter what comes to us tomorrow.......God is faithful and true!
So as this verse also says Jesus is coming to judge and wage war in righteousness
SLIDE 14
Judge (krino) - to determine, to resolve, to pronounce an opinion concerning right or wrong, to go to law
The word judge in Greek is KRINO - to determine, to resolve, to pronounce an opinion concerning right or wrong, to go to law
He comes to wage war, and we will see with who
Before we move on in Rev take a look what king David said in Psalm 96 about the Lord’s coming
SLIDE 15
13 Before the Lord, for He is coming,
For He is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
And the peoples in His faithfulness.
This is actually the last verse of Psalm 96 and the whole chapter is about sing to the Lord, worship the Lord, give the Lod glory, let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice, let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.........for the Lord is coming to judge the earth, and the world and the peoples
This is even more amazing here in Isaiah 11 take a look with me.....which really goes through how Jesus came the first time and our times now, His coming again and what we will have after He judges
SLIDE 16
1 Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse,
And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
SLIDE 17
3 And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,
And He will not judge by what His eyes see,
Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;
4 But with righteousness He will judge the poor,
And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth;
And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.
SLIDE 18
5 Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins,
And faithfulness the belt about His waist.
6 And the wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little boy will lead them.
Now again where are followers of Christ at in all this here in Rev 19?
I feel the church or those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be in heaven at Rev chapter 7 or the 6th seal....I will go through this thoroughly after we finish chapter 22
Lets see more about our Lord here in His coming in Rev 19 again
SLIDE 19
12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.
13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
we saw from the last verse the Lord is called Faithful and True
Here we see in verse 12 that no one knows His name except Himself
I feel it is those who He is coming to judge and wage war against that do not know His name… or to be more clear these names given here in verses 11, 12 , and 13
These on earth at this time will know its Jesus but to us we as we have been forgiven and saved by Jesus, we come to know Him, we worship Him, we learn of Him from this bible that He to us has made Himself to us “Faithful and True” and “The Word of God”
Now in Revelation 2 and 3 it mentions about new things to come and so no one knowing His name except Himself could be connected in Rev 2 and 3
SLIDE 20
17 ‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.’
SLIDE 21
12 ‘He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.
There are going to be a lot of new wonderful things in eternity..... amen?
His robe being dipped in blood here in verse 13 of Rev
SLIDE 22
13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
This would be what Isaiah 63 prophecies about
SLIDE 23
2 Why is Your apparel red,
And Your garments like the one who treads in the wine press?
3 “I have trodden the wine trough alone,
And from the peoples there was no man with Me.
I also trod them in My anger
And trampled them in My wrath;
And their lifeblood is sprinkled on My garments,
And I stained all My raiment.
SLIDE 24
14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.
15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.
SLIDE 25
16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, “Come, assemble for the great supper of God,
SLIDE 26
18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great.”
19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.
SLIDE 27
20 And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.
21 And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.
