Luke 11:1

“He was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as john also taught this disciples.”
Two of the most powerful words in the English language are “teach me.” These words suggest that a person is open to receiving instructions, he or she, they are willing to learn. Also, by acknowledging their openness to learning, there is also an admittance to not knowing. I am willing to learn what I don’t know.
All successful people are learners.
Education is key to one’s survival in any area. Education is a gift and educating is a privilege.
Today we salute teachers everywhere, those in the classroom, those in the labs, those who homeschool, those in private and parochial schools, charter schools, public schools, colleges, universities, tech schools, trade schools, alternative schools, thank you for taking up the challenge to give yourselves to the discipline of preparation and impartation.
Education process is a partnership between home and institution, regardless of your teaching environment. Even if you are a homeschooler, there is a standard of operation set forth the Department of Education-the institution, and your household. A partnership suggests that both the home and the institution are actively engaged in the process of securing the best educational outcome for the student.
Yes, the focus is the student…those fresh impressionable minds waiting to receive some information that could and should equip them with real life skills. Reading just ought to be fundamental. Writing ought to be the standard without compromise. Arithmetic is foundational, those are the three “Rs” of education according that great scholar, Madear! Every child ought to excel in the three Rs of education, reading, writing, rithmetic!
Now we all know that society is far more advanced now, and the methods of teaching and learning have evolved. Technology has introduced learning to our children at such early ages, until some kids are already reading by the time they reach kindergarten. Children are fast learners, tech savvy, visual learners, and many are so far advanced until their boredom can be interpreted as a learning disability. It’s not that they have learning impediment, its just that they are not challenged. And yet on the other hand, there are children who are struggle with traditional paths to learning. Children, like adults, learn differently, requiring different approaches, methodologies, and systems. However, no matter the challenge, it must be the belief and understanding of both student and teacher that everyone can learn.
As we get ready to return back to school, the novelty and excitement about going to school varies. For some, it is an exciting adventure waiting to unfold, but for others, it is a maze of challenges waiting to be figured out.
Teach us…some powerful words.
