Introduction

Today we continue through this great book of Hebrews, a letter that is steeped in Old Testament terms and references.
The author wants us to primarily see that Jesus is the Superior Savior and He is superior to anyone and anything referred to in the OT. We have learned that the last word and final communication to mankind is found in what Jesus has said.

Structure

Last week we reviewed from chapter 10 how much the readers were suffering. They were suffering so much that some were in danger of losing their grip on the gospel. They were in danger of losing their Gospel hope in the presence of Jesus in their lives. Some of them needed to remember that if they failed to depend on the superior and perfect sacrifice of Jesus, there is nowhere else to go.
Their only true confidence in relation to God is in Jesus. It is only by reason of the superior blood sacrifice of Jesus Himself that they could have assurance to enter into a relationship with God, to enter into His presence. They were encouraged that since they have this confidence and since they has Jesus as their great high priest, they need to turn to no other. Nothing else but His presence on their behalf before the throne of God will give them confidence. These two great truths give them boldness to ask God for help in their dire straits.
They have need of endurance.
They are people of faith, they need to press on in faith.
We finished us at the end of chapter 10 hearing that righteous people live by faith. Since Jesus is the perfect sacrifice and high priest and the writer says they are people who don’t shrink back but people who have faith, their souls will be preserved.
In this next section, chapter 11, it’s all about faith: its’ definition, and examples of faith in the Old Testament
