Titus and being Real....

The Central Idea of the Text is that Paul who is a servant of God is giving Titus the qualifications and characteristics of church leaders, specifically the elders and overseers. The central idea revolves around the importance of knowledge and sound doctrine, the ability to teach effectively, and the capability of maintaining order within the church community. Point one would be an explanation of Paul's qualities as a truthful and faithful follower who choices Titus to lead ministries in Crete. Point two would focus on the qualities and characteristics that one must possess to be a qualified leader for the church beginning with faithfulness to family, mild tempered, not greedy, calm, and true to the message taught to him with the ability to teach and encourage.
For Titus 1:10-16- The CIT is to address and oppose false teachings and its disruptive behaviors within the church community. It directs us to confront those who promote divisive ideas and that engage in immoral actions or conduct in order to promote the importance of upholding sound doctrine and how to live in a manner that reflects Christ's teachings. Point 1- Verses 10-11 Starting with a contrast to what a faithful elder is there is also the presence of individuals who are causing trouble by spreading false teachings. Subpoint A.- Characteristics of this include being rebellious, using empty/ meaningless words, false teachings, and dishonesty. Subpoint B- Mentions circumcision group (like those in Ephesians 2:11-22) ones promoting Strict Jewish customs and traditions (Old Covenant) Subpoint C- Need to silence those disruptors because their teachings are leading to harm in the church- lead by personal gain not genuine faith. Must maintain purity of doctrine and unity of the church's people. Point 2- Verses 12-15 Speaks of the prophet from Crete admitting the negative qualities of the people of Crete and the text goes on to acknowledge that these statements are true. Subpoint A- This is instructions to Titus to rebuke these individuals with absoluteness to help them become spiritually healthy and have a firm footing in the faith. Subpoint B- The focus then shifts to correcting the false beliefs and practices that they were led to by Jewish myths and societal regulations that contradict the truth of Christianity. Subpoint C- Verse 15 shows a contrast between those who are pure in faith and those whose beliefs are misled.  Positive light for those who are pure in faith and negative views for those who have been corrupted. Keep a sincere and unblemished faith. Point 3- Verse 16 is a continuation of the message to address the false teachers and their behavior. Speaks of these individuals professing to have knowledge of God but their actions contradict this claim. Subpoint A- Characteristics of these people are detestable, disobedient, and incapable of doing anything good. Subpoint B- Verse 16 fosters the idea that genuine faith should reflect one's acts and behavior.
