What is something you’ve always wondered about?
For example:
food is crazy.
Sometimes I eat something, and I’m like how on earth did someone think to make this combination?
Ketchup is kind of crazy when you think about it.
Smashed tomatoes and sugar and some other stuff and boom… let’s put our fried potatoes in that.
What about our phones?
Like all the technology that’s in our phones is crazy.
The fact that they communicate with towers and get our service (4g, 5g) from these towers.
Honestly, I’m not sure I understand how all of that works.
I’m not even sure I understand how when you speak sound waves into a phone, somehow it can magically travel through the air and someone can hear those exact same sound waves on the other end of the line, that’s wild!
But there are natural things too that are wild.
Did you know apple seeds contain cyanide?
Now if you eat an apple and eat an apple seed on accident, you’re fine.
But for real if you eat a bunch of them, or more scary, if they get crushed up somehow and you ingest them, it can kill you.
What are some other things you can think of that goes along with,
“How did someone think of that?”
Tonight here’s what we are going to do.
We are going to take 10 minutes, get into groups, and to invent something new.
Step 1: think of a problem or something that is missing in the world.
Step 2: think of a solution to that problem or an invention that would fill that void.
Step 3: Think of all the possible ways you could solve the problem or invent this new thing.
Step 4: Write it all down and share it with the group in a plausible way in 10 minutes.
GO!
Debrief:
Read Psalm 24:1 “1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;”
What Belongs to God? Is there anything that doesn’t?
It’s all his.
Every person, every object, everything in nature. Every idea man has.
It’s God’s first.
Psalm 25:5 “5 Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
Whose truth matters?
God’s truth matters.
He is our hope, our savior, all day every day.
For all of the questions I have in this world, I pray I run to Jesus first. That I remember it’s His truth I’m seeking, not my truth.
Psalm 25:6 “6 Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.”
Psalm 25:7 “7 Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good.”
What if I make mistakes in this life?
There is mercy for you.
Who you are is bigger than your greatest failure.
Jesus is full of great mercy and love.
So when we wrestle with the tough questions in life, guess what? There is mercy and love waiting for us.
But, go back to Psalm 25:5, are we seeking our truth, or God’s truth.
Grace and Mercy are always waiting for those who seek God’s truth.
Psalm 25:9 “9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.”
What motivates the reason for your questions?
When we ask God in humility, we will be blessed.
Am I asking questions to seek God’s truth or to try and prove God wrong?
Proverbs 3:34 “34 He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.”
God wants to be known, he wants us to ask the questions and in his mercy, answer them for us.
But we have to remember He is God.
We can’t know it all. Our minds literally could not comprehend all that God knows, controls, and dictates.
But if we care about what is right.
If we seek God and His truth for our lives, He will graciously, mercifully, guide you.
APPLICATION:
SO over the next couple months, I’d love for you to do just that.
I’d love for you to ask me the questions you’ve been wondering about.
Maybe there is a verse or a particular passage of scripture that you’ve struggled with.
Write it down, or text it to me and I’ll address it.
Maybe you have a question about faith, God, or how we know the Bible is true…
Ask that too!
Let’s attack those questions in humility and see what God has to show us.
Close with Romans verse...
Romans 15:13 “13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
This is what we are after.
