Text: Romans 14:10-12
Intro: So far in our gray area study we have looked at two different aspects why this is not an area of judgment.
Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. (Every one that is saved and has the Holy Spirit. Let God convict or confirm those areas, and understand that your convictions very likely are different than mine and that, that is perfectly okay.
Regard it unto the Lord. (Trust the motive, when God has led someone to do something focus on how to help encourage and praise, rather than tearing down through criticism.
Everyone of us shall give account of himself to God. Stop worrying about everyone else and worry about the judgment that you will face when standing before the Lord on the day when all saints are judged according to their works.
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Vs. 10 Why do we judge, why do we make our brother and sister’s in Christ feel like nothing… I can tell you, we don’t like it when others do it to us, so why do we do it in return? Why is it that we judge our brother and sister’s gray area’s and act like we are the one’s that God is going to hold accountable for it.
I can tell you what God is going to hold you accountable too, and it is not your brother or sister in Christ. It’s your judgment of your brother or sister in Christ.
May we heed the words of our Lord!
For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
Instead of holding people to the yoke of bondage that you wear, which is what it has become when you start judging people by it and start holding yourself to the words of Christ in.
But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
We seem to be quick to open our mouth without giving any real consideration to what we are about to say. Let me encourage us tonight. Jesus said;
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
We never give much consideration to ourselves. We are so quick to criticize another without ever looking at ourselves. Do you realize that your judgment of others is a flesh tactic, to keep you from looking within...
Romans 14 is not talking about the black and white commands in the Scriptures. It is talking about the gray areas and should be our guide for the gray areas. The black and white commands the Bible gives provision for addressing these as well.
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Before opening our mouths against a brother, I hope it is with careful consideration. First, a thorough look within, second by prayer and through the Spirit of meekness.
But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
Do you know what the love that Jesus spoke of would look like? Rather than look at a brother in judgment, we would ask God to put their fault on our account.
yet for love’s sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account; I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
