Life is hard. We struggle many times with navigating the ups and downs of it all. It’s easy to get stuck. When that happens, it’s easy for us to settle for where we are and stay there. But that is not the life Jesus came to give you. Somewhere deep in all of us is a longing for more - more life, more joy, more peace. What does that kind of life look like? How do you find it? Where do you begin? And what can you do about all the stuff that gets in the way? Fortunately for us, Jesus came to help us answer these very questions and so many more. He came to show us that when life hurts, He heals.
Matthew 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
Jesus is Our Model of Mercy
Mercy is Holding back from hurting someone even when it is within your power to do so
It is through His mercy when we sinners are able to enjoy a relationship with the Creator of the universe. It is only because of his mercies that we may enjoy the many blessings He bestows on us in this life.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;”
Throughout the New Testament, Jesus shows us how to be merciful. Jesus extended mercy to people and provided examples of mercy with parables. You don’t have to look far to find examples of Jesus’ merciful attitude. If we are following in his footsteps, we too will be merciful.
Next time you have something that comes into your day that is unexpected and serves as a speed bump, be sure to call it a challenge and not a problem.
a challenge is a demanding task that an individual wishes to overcome, a problem is something difficult to deal with or understand that hinders the progress of the individual
Solution>Pollution
Solution: the action or process of helping to solve a problem
Pollution: introducing harmful materials into your environment.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.”
How do we do this?
If we want to be shown mercy, we have to show mercy to others.
If we are to daily be more like Jesus and model our life after him, He is the best one to follow!
How do we find out how to be more like Jesus? Read. His. Word.
With Jesus being our model, He was the best when it comes to showing mercy!
On the cross example
Luke 23:34 “Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided his clothes and cast lots.”
As you go about your week, be abundant in showing mercy!
The people that hurt you, the people that talk bad about you behind your back, the people and friends who have wronged you; let it go.
When you talk about people to other people, you learn to hate them. But when you talk about people to God, you learn to love them.
Take away: Be a difference maker. Show mercy, Be the change that you wish to see in the world. It starts with us!
