God's Holiness
Exodus 20:1–2 NIV
1 And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
Exodus 34:13–14 NIV
13 Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles. 14 Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
God can demand his created to worship him because he is perfect. Not to command that would be sinful, and God is not sinful.
Man's sinfulness
Romans 5 All have sinned in Adam.
God's judgment against sin
Romans 6:23 (NIV)
23 For the wages of sin is death
Psalm 5:4–6 NIV
4 For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome. 5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong; 6 you destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, Lord, detest.
Psalm 11:5–6 NIV
5 The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion. 6 On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.
Does it sound like God is messing around? He is Holy and worthy of perfect praise. He is a just God that will be impartial giving to each according to what they have done.
Man's guilt before God
ps 14 and 53 - The same. None are righteous, none seek after God.
Romans 3:10–12 NIV
10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; 11 there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”
Galatians 5:19–21 NIV
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Hopeless! It is absolutely hopeless!!!
But God!!!
John 3:16 NIV
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
What does God want?
John 6:29 NASB95
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”
John 6:35–40 NASB95
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. 36 “But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. 37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 38 “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 40 “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”
John 6:44–45 NASB95
44 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. 45 “It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.
Helco - drags, pulls by force, leads by force
Irresistible grace
Eat my body drink my blood, many left Jesus
John 6:65 NASB95
65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”
John 3:27 NASB95
27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.
John 6:63 NASB95
63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
John 14:16–17 NASB95
16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
Man apart from God can do nothing to change his situation.
Holy Spirit keeping, man's eventual glorification.
Ephesians 2:4–10 NIV
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Every person is a sinner before a holy, just God.
God will give each what they rightfully deserve
But God Sent his son to die upon a cross of execution to pay, to satisfy the wrath of God against sin.
All who turn from their sin, repent, come to Jesus for salvation will be saved.
John 6:37 NIV
37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
God will keep those who are in Christ in His hand and never let them go.
What can we do to give credit to God in the maximum? Give him full credit for the work he has done to make you right with God.
Psalm 3:8 NASB95
8 Salvation belongs to the Lord; Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.
