Intro: Thank you worship team for leading us this morning. If you have your Bible with you this morning, would you please turn to John 21. We are going to be looking at verses 15-25. We have had an incredible weekend this weekend. The theme was on being called. Friday night we heard a message on the call to salvation. Yesterday, the first message we heard was on the call to holiness and the final was on a call to service. With keeping with that theme this morning, I wanted to look at the call to Follow Jesus. You may be thinking that sounds the same as the call to salvation or either of the other two. But I think we need to look at all facets of the call to follow Jesus. The main idea of our sermon this morning is that the call to follow Jesus starts with forgiveness, endures through suffering, and ends with life. We will see this morning through Peter’s restoration and responsibility, Peter’s call to follow, and what is there in the end. If you would, would you please stand as we honor the reading of God’s Word.
John 21:15-17.
Transition: Jesus forgives Peter. He restores him back to the status of disciple. But he doesn’t just forgive him and send him on his merry way. No, the forgiveness and responsibility would come with great cost to Peter. The calling was not easy.
John 21:18-23.
Transition: The call to follow Jesus wasn’t just a call to salvation. It was a a call to completely turn his life over to God’s will. But why would Peter be willing to do this if he knew it would lead to his death. It’s because he also knew who Jesus was and what surrendering his life to him meant.
John 21:24-25.
