Introduction:
Labor Day, in the United States and Canada, holiday (first Monday in September) honouring workers and recognizing their contributions to society.
In the United States, Peter J. McGuire, a union leader who had founded the United Brotherhood of Carpenters in 1881, is generally given credit for the idea of Labor Day. In 1882 he suggested to the Central Labor Union of New York that there be a celebration honouring American workers. On September 5 some 10,000 workers, under the sponsorship of the Knights of Labor, held a parade in New York City.
As we celebrate Labor Day tomorrow, everyone should be reminded that this day began as a day that would honor workers and recognizing their contributions to society.
I understand that some people cannot work because of a disability or something on those lines, but we have a real problem in this country with people who are just lazy.
I think we have have a spirit of laziness that has taken over our country.
Everyone feels like they are entitled to things but do not want to work for it.
We all need to contribute to society by working for what we want.
We, as Christians, are commanded by God to work and to not live expecting things to be handed to us.
2 Thessalonians 3:10 says, “10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
We are commanded by God to work.
We may not always look forward to waking up everyday and going to work, but we need to continue to do what the Lord has called us to do.
We need to always remember that we are working for the Lord and that He is our provider.
We need to do everything to the best of our ability, but always looking to Him for guidance, wisdom, and direction.
1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.
3 Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court.
