REVELATION 20 Satan Bound
As I come forward after worship
SLIDE 1 “WELCOME “
Encouraging words from worship
Last week we saw in chapter 19 the coming of the Lord
All the kings of the earth assembled to make war with Lord
The beast, the false prophet and all who worshipped the beast were thrown alive in the lake of fire
Those who mad war against the Lord were killed with the sword and the birds were filled with their flesh
The followers of Christ, those who have their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life are invited to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb

These who assembled for war against the Lord are coming to the great supper of God as saw last week in 19:17
These are the two suppers of Rev 19, Which do you think will be the better?
So we will be in Rev 20 today and satan will be bound

okay so let’s get started n chapter 20
SLIDE 10
1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;
Revelation 1 the Lord tells John he has the key to death and Hades
Rev Chapter 9 this key of the bottom pit was given to an angel described as a fallen star, this happened at the 5th trumpet.
At the 5th trumpet locust came out of the pit onto the earth
Remember there are the 7 seals, the 7 trumpets, the 7 bowls
The 7 trumpets and 7 bowls are judgements upon the earth, the trumpets start at the opening of the 7th seal
EXPLANATIONS OF THE ABOVE
Lets read on now in verse 3 of rev 20

3 and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.
Interesting for 1000 years - EXPLAINING
We have a couple of other references in the word about the abyss

26 Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.
27 And when He came out onto the land, He was met by a man from the city who was possessed with demons; and who had not put on any clothing for a long time, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs.

28 Seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, “What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me.”
29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him many times; and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, and yet he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert.

30 And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion”; for many demons had entered him.
31 They were imploring Him not to command them to go away into the abyss.

32 Now there was a herd of many swine feeding there on the mountain; and the demons implored Him to permit them to enter the swine. And He gave them permission.
33 And the demons came out of the man and entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.
And in Jude verse 6

6 And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,
The word abyss in the greek means

abyss (abusos) - bottomless / the pit
immeasurable depth
chasm in the lowest part of the earth
common receptacle of the dead or demons

3 and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
This more than likely will be the souls coming out of the Revelation period after the 7th seal is opened by Christ
This 1000 years is known as the Millennium we all hear about
This this is really a big big deal and I believe also why God singles this 1000 year period out
First this is God’s promise that Christ would reign in a new kingdom
Psalm 2 that the nations kings would loose their stand against God

6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
And God would install His Son as King
Also the angel Gabriel gives that promise to Mary before she conceives

32 “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;
33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”
Now back to Rev chapter 20 and more about this 1000 year period
SLIDE 22
5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
The dead here are the spiritually dead, died without receiving Christ, this would be all the dead without faith from all the way back...........the Greek word for dead here nekros- spiritually dead, gave up life with God for trespasses and sin
we will see these will face the great white throne judgement of Christ and thrown in the lake of fire which we will see here shortly in 20
We do not have a whole lot in God’s word showing us about the what is happening in this thousand years except those in the first resurrection will be priest of God and Christ and will reign with Him.
Jesus did give His disciples this promise for this period

29 and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you
30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And we have this from 2nd Peter which really brings this verse more into context we have heard so many times about 1 day being like a 1000 and a 1000 being like 1 year to God.
I have to read several verse around this one and lets see how it could relate to Rev chapter 20

3 Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,
4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.”

5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,
6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.
7 But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
Now lets see what happens when the thousand years is completed

7 When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison,
8 and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore.
Notice it says his prison.....all translations say this by the way
Notice that the nations are still on earth

9 And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.
10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
I think we should just stop here and have praise team come and devote The Great I Am or Champion song right here and just praise praise praise the Lord....amen
Let’s finish up the chapter now about those who are dead from Christ
This will make yours and mine communion time much more serious

11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.
Now I wanted the Holy Spirit singled this verse out....why? Notice that as God is on the great white throne....His presence is so great and powerful that even earth and heaven flee from it!
Is this Christ on the throne of God? Not sure but next chapters will give the reference as being “The Throne of God and The Lamb”
Lets read on
SLIDE 30
12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.
SLIDE 31
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.

14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
