Lamentations 3

Lamentations 3:22–24 ESV
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
The book of Lamentations is a heartfelt lament, a cry of sadness, but it isn’t all like that. Here in this passage we see that the author rest in the truths of who God is.
In verse 21 it says Lam 3.21 “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:” What we are reading is that this that he is referring to and we see it connected to a therefore statement we see in the end of 24. Both of these connecting saying therefore I have hope, therefore I will wait in him.
The passage begins by stating that the steadfast love, the loyalty, the faithful love of the Lord never ceases, it never expires or burns out. It will last and stand the test of time so this means that we should never wonder if it is still there because it is. It uses similar language to describe his mercies as they never come to an end, they never fade away and perish.
More than this they are new every morning. This is not a literal new in the way that we think of it but rather a freshness like a car that has been professionally cleaned and feels as though it is new again. This is a comforting daily truth for us to think about. The steadfast love and mercy of God never perishes and is refreshed in us every day.
These truths should lead us to shout out “Great is your faithfulness” just as the writer does. All true theology, all true knowledge of God leads leads to doxology or worship of God. These truths about who God is lead the author and should leads us to lift up praises to God.
In the continuation of his praise we see that the Lord is his portion, the lord is what little he has. He trust that God is sufficient in all things and that he is all that he needs.
Because of this, therefore, I will hope in the Lord.
I exhort you brothers and sisters, hope in the Lord because his steadfast love and mercy are new for you every single morning. This is truth that you can find comfort in.
