Exodus 35:18 KJV 1900
The pins of the tabernacle, and the pins of the court, and their cords,
Exodus 27:19 KJV 1900
All the vessels of the tabernacle in all the service thereof, and all the pins thereof, and all the pins of the court, shall be of brass.
Intro: The Tabernacle was secured by pins of brass and cords of linen. The pins were driven into the ground securing a tie down point. Like a mooring anchored to the ground at the bottom of the harbor, able to hold that which is tied from being taken away. The cords ran over the covering of badger skins and were then tied to the pins. Once the pins and cords were in place there was great comfort knowing the Tabernacle was steadfast and unmovable.
In a pin, we gather the understanding of that which fastens. It’s purpose was to fasten; to make fast; or to join and fasten together.
Isaiah 33:20 KJV 1900
Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: Thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, A tabernacle that shall not be taken down; Not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, Neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
It is given another name in Isaiah 22:20-25. (a _____________ in a sure place:) Rev. 3:7 Confirm this to be Christ!
Isaiah 22:23 KJV 1900
And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; And he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.
Notice: In verse 25, “On that day” there is a nail that has already been fastened that needs to be cut down and will fall. This nail is a symbol of the Antichrist who will portray himself as the christ. He will make a covenant with the Jews, and they will hail him as their deliverer. “On that day” the Lord Jesus will cut him down and all of those who cast their hopes upon him. He will reveal Himself as the true and abiding nail, fastened in the sure and everlasting covenant!
The pins were brass speaking of His _________________________. They would not rust nor see corruption. The falling rain, the blowing wind, or the raging storm would not affect them. The pins of brass stood through every test...
They symbolize for us our Lord Jesus, The ____________________ One.
Tested in His ______________:
Matthew 4:1-3 Jesus fasted and was hungry, so the Devil appealed to that weakness. In this he tempted Christ to turn away from His chosen attitude of faith, hence removing Himself from the protection and providence of His Father’s hand. In doing so His conveniently restrained deity would have been shown outside of the Father’s will. Although Christ performed many miracles, non of them was to His own benefit.
This was a test which appealed to His claims as God and creator of all things. Christ refused to act in divine power even though in His humanity demanded He eat. Becoming a man required Him to put perfect, and absolute dependence upon His Father. Although tempted, He refused to take Himself out of the Father’s hand, He would abide before the world, as a man Who walked by faith, and not by sight. The pin withstood this test!
Tested in faith concerning the __________________.
Psalm 91:11-12, Matthew 4:5-6 The Father had promised Him care, by the hand of His angels. To test His faith concerning the promises of the Father, the Devil led Him up to the Highest point of the temple and cast Himself down. If Christ were tempted here, and did as the Devil supposed, it would have showed unbelief by testing the promise of God, rather than simply believe His word by faith! The pin withstood this test!
He was tested with the offer of ________________ power and glory.
Matthew 4:8-9 He came into the world to be King of the Jews, King of Israel, and King of kings. He knew the path to obtain that was by way of the cross, the way of suffering and death. This temptation was a short cut offering. This was not a meaningless offer, Satan still resides and prince, and god of this world. His offer was to turn it over now, but it required Christ to recognize him as god… The thing he desired the most, was to be “like the Most High” (Is. 14:13-14) The act in which Satan became as this name suggests the adversary. Since man was created he has tempted man with his own fatal desire, to be as God. In corrupting the word of God, and deceiving Eve, he became the Devil, signifying a slanderer. Knowing all things, He knew that the Son of Man, would be coequal ruler of all, so he tempted Christ, with an early out to rule, if He would but fall down and recognize him as an equal ruler. In breaking the everlasting covenant, man would have been prevented from ascending in Christ. The pin withstood this test!
He was tested by a _________________.
John 6:15 Five thousand people followed Him, were fed by Him using just five loaves and two fish. They responded seeing Christ as the One Who could meet all their necessities, so therefore, in there mind, He deserved to be King. If He could feed them with so little, and they could be satisfied wholly, then He was also One Who could free them from their toil, taxation, and tyrant. Look at how Christ responded, John 6:15. In Matthew 14:23 the Bible tells us that he went up into a mountain apart to pray and was alone. The pin withstood this test!
He was tested in the ______________ with the __________ which the Father had given Him to drink.
Matthew 26:37-42 As a man, He shrank under the heavy weight of the cup. Looking into this cup, Christ saw Himself to be made sin, to be treated as sin, and to be punished as sin, and submit to all the judgment of His infinite Father. The Father whom He love, and for Who He bore this robe of flesh. “Nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.” (Mk. 14:36) The pin withstood this test!
He was tested with a way of __________________ from His looming death.
Matthew 26:53 At this time a legion was a body of infantry soldiers consisting of 6000 men. Christ is stating that He could just ask the Father to send 72,000 angels. The guards of glory, were on stand by, just waiting for the call. His response (Mt. 26:54) “But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? The pin withstood the test!
He was tested on the ________________.
While the Lord of glory hung on the cross in great agony the people that stood and watched Him suffering tempted Him. They mocked Him, they called out to Him, “If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.” (Mt. 27:40) He was tested by the priest, scribes, and elders, “ He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. (42) He was tested by the thieves who were crucified with Him. (44) “The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.” The pin withstood the test!
He was tested in all points as ___________ are.
Hebrews 4:15 “Yet without sin.” He me every assault of the Devil with the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17) “As it is written...” (Mt. 4) The pin withstood the test!
The pins were the anchorage and security of the whole Tabernacle. They were its hope, and security against the stormy blasts and raging tempest. Christ is the anchor of the soul that trusteth in Him. He is our Surety, our Blessed Hope!
Hebrews 6:19–20 KJV 1900
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
The Tabernacle was rooted, grounded, built up, and established by the function of the brazen pins. This is the security that a relationship between you and your Saviour brings.
Colossians 2:7 KJV 1900
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
1 John 3:2 KJV 1900
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
2 Corinthians 1:20 KJV 1900
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
Revelation 3:14 KJV 1900
And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
The security offered by the pin was not in the pin itself, but in the pin being driven deeply into the ground. The cords were tied to that part, which rose above it! Our security is found in our Lord Jesus Christ, the fact that He died, was buried, and rose again! It is the risen Lord Jesus, that had victory over death and the grave, and by it we have victory! Because of His death, we can be joined together with Him in resurrection!
1 Corinthians 15:17 KJV 1900
And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
He will forever be, the nail fastened in a sure place!
