Jesus is Coming

Acts 3:19–21 (NASB95)
“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time.
God desires for all to repent. When the last person repents and puts their faith in Jesus, He will return. The Old Testament has many references to the second coming of Christ. Zech. 9:14-15
Zechariah 9:14–15 (NASB95)
Then the Lord will appear over them, And His arrow will go forth like lightning; And the Lord God will blow the trumpet, And will march in the storm winds of the south. The Lord of hosts will defend them. And they will devour and trample on the sling stones; And they will drink and be boisterous as with wine; And they will be filled like a sacrificial basin, Drenched like the corners of the altar.
Zechariah shows that the Lord will come with the blow of the trumpet and defeat evil and restore Israel. Zech 12:10-14
Zechariah 12:10–14 (NASB95)
“I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. “In that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo. “The land will mourn, every family by itself; the family of the house of David by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Levi by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the Shimeites by itself and their wives by themselves; all the families that remain, every family by itself and their wives by themselves.
Zechariah predicts the pouring out of grace on those who crucified Jesus. When He returns their will be great mourning in Jerusalem. Amos 9:11-12
Amos 9:11–12 (NASB95)
“In that day I will raise up the fallen booth of David, And wall up its breaches; I will also raise up its ruins And rebuild it as in the days of old; That they may possess the remnant of Edom And all the nations who are called by My name,” Declares the Lord who does this.
Amos talks about the resurrection of Israel. Jer. 30:18
Jeremiah 30:18 (NASB95)
“Thus says the Lord, ‘Behold, I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob And have compassion on his dwelling places; And the city will be rebuilt on its ruin, And the palace will stand on its rightful place.
Jeremiah 33:26 NASB95
then I would reject the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, not taking from his descendants rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy on them.’ ”
When Jesus comes back there will be a great restoration of Israel and the kingdom of God.
Right now the world is in a tailspin of evil that is going to continue to get worse until the great day of restoration comes.

Jesus Is the Messiah Moses Spoke Of

Acts 3:22–24 (NASB95)
“Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. ‘And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ “And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days.
God promised to raise up a prophet like Moses to lead the nation of Israel. He gave specific instruction to listen to this Prophet. So how do we know Jesus is this prophet. There are many old testament prophecies about Jesus. Micah 5:2
Micah 5:2 (NASB95)
“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”
Micah predicts the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.
Isaiah 7:14 NASB95
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
Isaiah predicts that the Messiah will be born of a virgin.
Isaiah 53:11–12 (NASB95)
As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities. Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors.
Isaiah predicts the Messiah will pay the penalty for peoples sin.
Zechariah 12:10 NASB95
“I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.
Zechariah predicted the crucifixion of Jesus.
Daniel 9:26 NASB95
“Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.
Daniel predicts the murder of the Messiah.
Isaiah 53 goes into detail about Jesus crucifixion.
Not only does the Old testament prophets prophesy about the Jesus hundreds of years before Jesus came to this world, but even Jesus says the words he says are straight from the Lord
John 12:49–50 (NASB95)
“For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. “I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”
If Jesus is speaking the words that the Father gives Him, then we will need to listen to him. Those that choose not to heed the message of the Messiah will be destroyed. Jesus message is Mark 1:15
Mark 1:15 NASB95
and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Jesus calls people to repent of their sins and return to God through faith in Jesus. John 14:6
John 14:6 NASB95
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Jesus is the Fulfillment of the Promise to Abraham.

Acts 3:25–26 NASB95
“It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ “For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”
God promised Abraham that all nations would be blessed from his seed. Notice the God did not say the seeds of Abraham but the seed. This means one person. That one person is Jesus.
We know this because God raised Jesus from the dead and through him affords people opportunity to turn from their wicked ways.
God also predicted that Eve’s seed would destroy satan.
Genesis 3:15 (NASB95)
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
Jesus destroyed the works of satan. 1 John 3:8
1 John 3:8 NASB95
the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus has done this.
So the question is what do we do with this sermon.
Expect the second coming of Christ
Believe that Jesus is God’s Son. The Messiah
