He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
This kingdom brings I new Kingdom perspective
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
need n. — anything that is necessary but lacking.
Look at this definition...
Can you agree that we all have something in some area of our life that is necessary but lacking?
The Book of Philippians
Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians & Colossians Philippians 1: Our Joy in Troubled Times
The letter is written to thank the Philippian Christians for their generous financial and spiritual gifts to Paul and to address some of their practical problems.
Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians & Colossians Philippians 1: Our Joy in Troubled Times
Written to the Christians in Philippi while Paul was in prison in Rome.
• The church at Philippi was founded by people whom Paul led to Christ during his first journey to that region.
I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.
Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians & Colossians D. Joy in Contentment (vv. 10–13)
Paul shows his attitude of gratitude by expressing joy over their gifts which Epaphroditus had delivered to him (Phil. 2:25), gifts which continued a long history of the Philippian church’s supporting Paul
Concern: Think; set one’s mind on
When it comes to our ministry....
Are you concerned?
#1 Those in Leadership
#2 Vision of the Church
#3 Facilities
Is Image church a priority?
The Philippian church was concerned about Paul but their concern was revived.
Revived: Blossom again, to restore to an active state…
Philippians 4:11–13 (ESV)
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble.
Share: participate together
Paul acknowledge that you didn’t have to ride with me as he was
in a Roman jail cell, chained to a Roman soldier.
You didn’t have to emotionally become connected
Or a financial supporter
He acknowledged their kindness…
And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only.
Philippi was a leading city of the district of Macedonia
Paul answers a question for me as a pastor!
Why do we need money as a church?
Why are we looking for financial partnership?
Some would say.... We need money so we can keep the lights on for worship!
We need money so we can have AC during service
Do you believe the the gospel in holistically transformational?
The gospel has to be our foundation for operation
“In the beginning of the gospel”
If we are not pointing people to Jesus or being a model of how to live like Jesus, we are not doing the right thing.
Yes we need money for operational cost…
Think about this…
PG&E allows us to keep food cold…
Do you really know how many people we feed per week.
Comcast allows us to stream....
Zoom allows to connect and grow
A functional building allows us to provide a space for the community..
(Nicole & the CNA Program)
Do you know the influence we could have on the community with 3 full time staff…

Partnership: to share (partake) v. — to have, give, or receive a share of.
A Transferred perspective is a Partnership mindset
This type of partnership is connected to your treasure…
The Philippian church gave actual gifts!
How do we financially partner
1) Tithing, which involves giving 10% of our income. (Gen 14:20 and Lev 27)
Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
2) Sacrificial / Free-will offering (Generous giving)
The Blessing of Partnering:
#1 I’m making a deposit
Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.
Paul is not trying to fundraise....
Paul wanted them to know that their deeds would not go unnoticed.
They have a deposit in heaven that will yield rich dividends…
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“I seek the fruit that increases to your credit”
Fruit: outcome ⇔ fruit n. — the consequence of some effort or action.
Increases: to increase (undergo change) v. — to become bigger or greater in amount.
Credit: account n. — an itemized statement of money owed for goods shipped or services rendered.
When you partner God is marking down your account in heaven. Creating a credit list for repayment for your services rendered.
#2 Partnering is God-pleasing
I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
Partnering is a sacrificial act…
When you give as a partner who is concerned
When you give as a partner who believes in the gospel message
When you give as a cheerful giver
Every time you give, you are offering a fragrant offering (A pleasant smell)
It’s a sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God!
A God-Pleasing Life:
Productive
Progressive
Spiritual
Expressive
Generous
#3 Partnering brings a holistic Blessings
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Paul makes a declaration based out of his on personal relationship!
“My God”
The reason why he could be “content” is because God had proven Himself to Him.
“I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me”
Supply to satisfy ⇔ fill up v. — to satisfy, conceived of as if filling a container completely.
“Every Need”
need n. — anything that is necessary but lacking.
How do I get my needs request to God?
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
God will… Fill the necessary needs in your life!
Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians & Colossians E. Joy in Christ’s Provision (vv. 14–20)
God does this out of the abundance of his treasury, a glorious resource without limits
