Put off the Old Man
Put off the Old Man
Don't walk as the other Gentiles:
Futility of mind (empty minded, vanity).
Vanity Fair - in airports
Dave Ramsey - "We spend money we don't have to buy things we don't need, to impress people we don't even like"
I would add, all to meet a need we can't fill apart from Christ.
It’s chasing shadows
Darkened in understanding
Separated from the life of God
Calloused given to sensuality
Greedy to practise impurity. Always looking for the next thrill, which never lasts (50 Shades).
Isaiah 55:1–3 (ESV) “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. 3 Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.
Put off the old clothes.

Put on the New Man
BUT, you have not learned Christ this way!
You have heard him and been taught by him.
The truth is in Jesus!
The disciples learned Christ by being with Him.
John 1 - John and Andrew, "Rabbi, where are you staying?"
They learned what moved him: the multitudes listening to him, two blind men.
They learned what angered him: keeping children or others from meeting God.
They learned what motivated him: doing the will of the Father.
They learned the secret of power for life, Luke 5:16 (ESV) “But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.”
How to put on the new man:
Hear Jesus - actively listen to His Word. Spend time in fellowship with Him.
Jesus would get up a great while before day to meet with the Father.
The truth is in Jesus, in His person and work,
Invitation: Matthew 11:28–30 (ESV)
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
