Jesus is Introducing a New Era

Jesus will stop talking in figures of speech. v25

We will be able to to go to the Father directly

The Father loves you

God’s love for us is not conditional to our love for Him

1 john 4:7-11 “7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

The Disciples Had a Limited Understanding

Jesus understood they were still confused v. 31-32

He knew the disciples would abandon him

if they really knew who Jesus was, they would not have been afraid

Jesus Overcomes

Even with the disciples abandoning Him, He will not be alone v33b

We can have peace because

We will have tribulation

I do not want you to leave thinking your life will be easy

But we can overcome

The Resurrection is the Victory

The disciples did not understand, but after the resurrection they will

The disciples were cowardly, but after the resurrection they would be brave

We can look to the resurrection to overcome the difficulties of this world
