How to Receive Gods Blessings in His House

Intro

Everyone wants a blessing. But most have know idea how to receive it. Sure there are countless books on blessing.

Pray this, Pray That

Do this, Don’t do that.

etc etc

Hundreds if not thousands of books are at any Christian bookstore.

But how can the average person walk in blessing? How can you or I walk in blessing?

Well scripture gives us many clues into this.

In 1st Chronicles David was transporting the ark of the covenant back to Jerusalem, when the cart it was on began to shake. One of those transporting it touched the Ark to keep it from falling off. When He Did God killed Him, because he wasn’t supposed to touch the Ark.

Well David had taken short cuts in transporting the ark and this mans life was ending because of it. But when it happened, everyone rightly backed up because nobody wanted to be killed.

David was scared to move it, so he began asking around. Who wants the Ark? you should be safe, if you don’t touch it. I think?

One man raised his hand. Obed Edom, you will take it? “I will keep it in my house, and guard it.

You see Obed Edom, was just taking responsibility his was moving the manifest presence of God into His home.

1 Chronicles 13:14 ESV

And the ark of God remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house three months. And the Lord blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that he had.

Two Quick Points about Obed-Edom’ willingness to bring the Ark in.

Many viewed the Ark as this terrible Box, that housed a vengeful God, but Obed Edom saw past the fear, into the heart of God.

This wasn’t a moment to fear, but an opportunity to know the God of Isreal like no one else. So He welcomed the uncertain future with the Ark and the presence of god. Would God kill him when He saw his sin?Obed Edom, was bringing God into his mess, his life. God already, knew everything of course, but now Obed Edom, would have to face the presence of God Daily.

After Obed-Edom Invited Gods presence, gods blessing began to rain down.

Psalm 37:4 ESV

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

The First Step to walking in Blessing is understanding that to receive:

To Receive Gods Blessing, You Must First Receive Gods Heart.

Heart Change often comes before blessing.

Why does God’s blessing often, require heart change?

Because the reality is that we cannot naturally handle Gods blessing. So He cannot send it until we are ready for it. If you want to receive the abundant blessing of God, we must allow the Holy Spirit to get us ready.

What happens is As you invite the Lord, in to your life He begins to clean you, strengthen, prepare your for the blessing and call He has for you.

So what happens, is that the Ark is in Obed Edoms house for 3 months, then David moves it to Jerusalem.

But you see, something changed in Obed Edoms Heart, because here he shows up again, as the doorkeeper in the temple.

The Ark may have moved out of Obed Edoms house, but he is having a hard time getting it out of his.

Then God further blesses Obed Edom, not by giving him stuff, but by inviting him into a deeper walk.

Obed Edom, is invited to minister before the Lord with music. He is invited to Worship God, and because his heart is aligned with the Father, he joins in and worships.

1 Chronicles 16:4–5 ESV

Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel. Asaph was the chief, and second to him were Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, who were to play harps and lyres; Asaph was to sound the cymbals,

Here is Obed Edom, now ministering before the Lord Called Into Worship. He is one of the few that are given this honor. But again, Obed Edom is found ministering to the Father.

It’s in the small things that great blessings flow.

1 Chronicles 16:38 ESV

and also Obed-edom and his sixty-eight brothers, while Obed-edom, the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah were to be gatekeepers.

So Follow me, Obed Edom, had the Ark of God in his house, He ministered before the Ark with music, now he is just standing at the door.

He had so much of the father, now he is a gatekeeper. That is how we think.

Titles, glory, prestige, honor. but that is not how God works.

But my friends, do not despise the small things. they often bless the Lord the most. the humble, unseen, tasks.

What Obed Edom, has discovered, is that is it isn’t about the blessing, it isn’t about the title, it’s about being as close to heart of God that He will allow.

Get me near the the throne of grace, get me near the heart of king. Get me near power of the almighty, just get me near.

you may have been used by God in mighty ways in the past and now the opportunities aren’t so grand, but what isn’t grand to you and I in our natural eyes means the world to Jesus and those whom He loves.

Closing

Obed Edom saw the blessing of god poured out in his life. But you know what He had going in these three seasons?

He longed to be in gods manifest life changing presence.

He went wherever God called Him

He was not only blessed, but he was a conduit of blessing and love to god and those around him.

Are you walking in blessing today?

Am not talking about stuff. who cares if your car or house is nice. sure that is Good, but that isn’t what we are talking about. those kind of blessings don’t change hearts.

I am talking about the presence and blessing and power of god in your life. you see you can can walk in blessing, whether you are rich or poor. Healthy or unhealthy. Gods blessing, is different than mans.

I know people, who have very little money, but are used by god for great things. They are blessed.

I know people, who struggle in their health. they may not talk right, walk right, they may struggle with cancer now and again, but they are blessed, not because of their health, but in spite of their health.

Are you walking in the blessing God today? If you are, praise God, for another day to lift His name high.

If you are not and you want to: you must first know Jesus! That is the greatest of all blessings, to be in the kingdom of God.

Secondly, you must hunger, for his presence.

Thirdly, when He calls, you go and you serve fearlessly.
